Purpose of chin spoiler?
Yes, it let's you know if your too close to the parking curb.
In theory, yes! on are Stang's just looky-doo's. I have read that the chin splitter on the GT500 is functional at speed! 150 MPH!. So as tacobill Say's it just a expensive curb feeler......
but in saying that, I do have one ordered.......

I think my front bumper is already low to the ground as-is and I have to drive slowly in some parts to avoid scraping it. I'm not sure the chin spoiler is a good thing to add to my Stang.
It serves to make your car look a little different from the other 600,000+ 'Stangs on the road today. 
It also serves as a 'Stang enthusiast indicator. When I see chin spoiler, stripes, non standard wing, scoops, louvers, etc... I always wonder if I'm encountering a fellow TMS member.

IMO it brings the front end even with the rocker panels (sides) or as someone else has more appropriately stated- it should have come with the car. Its real purpose in life is to keep reminding me I'm getting old since I have had more than my share of "dumb *** moments" where I forget about it and we have a "OOPS" event
All of the above, plus, believe it or not, on our car the fuel efficiency improved... I know it sounds crazy, but I've been making a run to south FL since I got the car, and never have I been able to make it down and back on a single tank of fuel. After we installed our new front splitter that we offer, I made the same trip (not for efficiency, but because I needed to make the run) and I made it down and back with 1.5 gallons left in the tank. Prior to this, the best I ever did was to make it within 35 miles of home, and needed to stop because I had been floating the low-fuel light for 10 minutes or so...
Trip was the same route, approx. same weather conditions, and nothing else had changed, running speed between 70-85mph depending on traffic conditions. Of course, YMMV
On the reason for them in the first place - directing and controlling air to keep it from getting underneath the car is the main reason for their "real" existence, whether or not they actually function in this manner is more a result of design shape, attachment, front end design of vehicle, etc... suffice it to say there is a reason why sanctioned racing organizations (SCCA, etc) limit the minimum height of a spoiler / splitter / airdam on race cars in certain classes - it is a competitive advantage in many situations.

I'm intrigued. I can justify its purchase and installation if there's a definite improvement in gas mileage.

I'm not a fan of any extra "plastic" added to a car. I've never been a fan of styling kits, etc. I think I just prefer a cleaner look, probably why I hated the stock spoiler so much - just looks tacked on IMO.
Having said that I do like the look of the Roush and Steeda front bumper covers. But the chin spoilers look "tacked on" to me.

Here's one picture, we have more on our site. What's nice is it snugly fills in the "gap" below the lower radiator inlet area, which I never was a fan of on the front end of the car. It is very Shelby-esque, but is made to specifically bolt on to the GT nose.
The one we offer / use only sits down about 1/2", it is a splitter, not a spoiler - it does though sit forward about 2.5-3". Please though, don't be buying this looking for a magic pill to fix the 3.00/gallon gas, because this improvement we have only seen on the highway mileage, city mileage was unaffected.

Looks nice. Do you have a picture of the Agent 47 Lower Grill installed with the chin spoiler? I would be interested in seeing that combination.[/quote]

We have an Agent 47 lower we're using for testing, but I don't have any photos right now of it installed. Even if I did, on the white car digital compression kind of makes it hard to see the difference between it and stock.
