pony puddle lights aftermarket

I know that akdoggie was going to retrofit the 13-14 pony puddle lights into his car. I was going to do the same.

It would require drilling holes into the outside mirror housings, but that is no biggy.

Then i saw this on youtube. Looks like they mount on the door instead of the mirror. Looks really cool.

Anyone have any info on these lights?

Talk to AKDoggie. He has a guide that he created for the mirror ones. Ive read it and it pretty good!

As for these, I thought about doing the same. Im sure its the same light only mounted to the door which is pretty easy to do. Just need to drill a hole and hook it up.

Sorry, it was akdoggie that I meant, not Data174. i need to get our members straight.

I haven't seen akdoggie's write up, but I'll look. I have a pretty good idea as to how I'll do it if I go this route. I added them to my 2012 already.

However, I quite like these aftermarket ones, but wanted to know how durable the lights are? The OEM ones seem to suffer problems, and are these any better? I also like that these are colour.

Where did he post his how to?

Gottahaveit,

So these go on the bottom of the door, correct? I would also be concerned about water on the bottom of the door on the inside as it drains out. Will the water leak through where the puddles go? Or are the lights small enough to fit in the mirrors?

Could you measure the height and width of these for me?

I really like how these look, but would rather mount them in the mirrors.

I think there maybe enough plastic to put in the plastic part of the door I'm thinking kind close to the red marker light. as for the steel part of door I'm not crazy about drilling there the plastic if wide enough is easily re parable. The door I took out those plastic rubber bumpers and attached a small cork or thin rubber one to leave those 2 holes on each door open for water to run through, I took one out & found a pile of pine needles so left clear is better, just don't go wide on a one stick replacement I said cork as that was light and the furniture type were the right thickness.

So are these too tall to put in the bottom of the mirrors like OEM?

Found them on Ebay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ford-Mustang-Running-Pony-Tribar-Ghost-Shadow-Light-Logo-Projector-10W-CREE-/171627131529?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item27f5c63289&vxp=mtr
They look like they should fit in the mirror, but would have to be angled somehow like the OEMs. They do show these going in the plastic of the door, as you said.

The mirror makes more sense, as they would then turn on when the car is unlocked without having to open the door. Still wondering about longevity of these.

These don't look like they are protected from the elements. The door trim looks to be the only place for it.

I have the projector lamps on my car, mounted in the door in the plastic area under the reflector and wired to the map lights. The first set I installed (Gen2, I think) had a screw-collar and the image rotated every time the door closed. I was provided with a free replacement pair and then the other side burned out. I removed both and got a later generation (Gen 5?) that look like these:

These have not burned out nor has the image rotated and it has been a couple of years, now. However, the red part of the logo has faded away so they are just monochrome projections now. Still...I like them.

Thanks for that feedback. The ones I posted claim to be superior:

I would still rather have them in the mirror. I am now starting to lean back to OEM.

Mine are ready to go into the car as soon as all the weather decides what it wants to do. Rain one day, cold the next. Hard to get a handle on it, but at least we sent the snow somewhere else this year. lol

Here is what the factory pony puddle lamps look like on my floor with just 5 volts of power. They are mounted into 2012 mirror heads. I think it will do great on the car. I had to use the bedroom floor to get a dark enough picture to show how bright they are at 5volts.

I considered using the 10-14 mirrors, as that would solve everything. But I just prefer the 05-09 mirror housings. Of course, that makes things harder.

I know this an old old thread, But I'm thinking of upgrading to the 2013-2014 mirrors for the smaller shape. I thought as long as I was doing that get the ones with the puddle lamps would be cool. I see that they had a lot of problems with them, I was wondering if I went with 2011-12 and fit those projectors everybody puts in the door? Anybody try them in the mirror? I cant find akdoggie's write up on fitting the puddles to 2012
