I have hood pins on the stock hood, and they are fully functional. I actually took out the entire hood latch mechanism. Saved about 3 pounds off the front of the car! Besides saving a little weight, I love being able to open the hood up without opening the door and popping the latch.

As far as putting hood pins on your car, it all depends on the look you are going for. I am going for the Shelby look of old, so I had to have hood pins. And I just like the way they look. But they can also serve a purpose. I had mentioned here a while back that when I took the car over 90-100, I could see the hood flexing a good bit. So, having hood pins just adds a little extra safety.

Now, the fake ones aren't necessarily "rice"... it's just kinda silly. I mean, hood pins on "riced out" cars are always functional. Tuner car owners who but a carbon fiber hood on their car need the hood pins there to actually work. But putting fake hood pins on isn't really a good idea IMO.

Ultimately, do what you want. But don't not put hood pins on because you are afraid to drill holes in the hood. It's not as bad as you think.

I dont really car for the hood pins, but love the Twist locks.
Fiberglass hood you need one or the other.

I've already nuked my hood with the bighiney hole for the shaker so drilling it for pins doesn't bother me at all - BUT - I do want to know about this design flaw you are talking about..

No, you don't need the lanyard cables. The only purpose they serve is so that you don't lose the hood pins when you need to take them off. Some of the old Shelby mustangs had them, some didn't. It's really your preference. I personally like the look... gives the front a little more character.

I think I would rather them with out the cable but I have never seen either setup in person. Would that cable smack around on the paint during highspeed?

I am thinking of putting 1970 style twist locks on my factory hood . I am not sure if they will work . Any ideas ????

I have the lanyards on my hood pins for the Cobra and they don't flutter around nearly as much as you might think. At 150 they are moving some, but not hitting the body that I can tell.

BTW - This is a racecar I am talking about and on a racetrack..

The lanyard cables are coated with clear rubber/plastic. So, they cannot scratch the hood. As far as them moving, if you have them tight and against the hood like mine (I have seen some that are looser and stick up a few inches from the hood) they shouldn't move at all. Mine don't. I know because there is a small chip on the front of my hood where a rock must have gotten it... it's very small but it's actually in the perfect spot so that the lanyard covers it. I check whenever I get out of the car to make sure it's still hiding the chip, and unless I was flying on the interstate on a windy day, it's usually still hiding it. I actually used to have my cables looser, and don't remember them moving too much. But the cables themselves are pretty rigid. So, they aren't going to flap around.

You don't technically need the cables. They do help keep you from losing the pins, I guess. And in my case, one of the lanyards hides a little chip on my hood. Everything on the car doesn't have to be for functionality though. My racing stripes don't make the car go any faster, but they sure make the car look cooler trying.

Right. I have said on here in other threads... I don't like the fake pins. That's like saying, "I was too scared to do the real thing..." because anyone who walks up to your car and looks at it close is going to see they are fake.

Sorry, but I'm totally confused by your post. I latch my seatbelt, if that's what you mean. Not sure what seatbelts have to do with hoodpins though. The stick-on hood pins are tacky IMO, and I don't like them a bit. That's my opinion though... you are entitled to yours.
