I'm going to purchase a CDC ducktail and I'm not sure if I should buy a painted or unpainted one from them. I spoke to CDC directly and they said that they soft sanded it, paintd and clearcoated it just like any other body shop would. So it's an extra 100 bucks to have them do it, and then I don't have to take it anywhere, and it's ready to go when it arrives. What would you guys recommend? Has anyone bought it from them already painted? Is their paint job up to snuff?

 

I bought the painted one and I am glad I did. The paint quality was excellent and it was a great match. I have not heard anything negative about the painted ones. I wish they would offer the chin spoilers painted as well. It took my local Ford dealer 4 times and 4 weeks to do a job they said would take 3 days. (The third time I went to pick it up and it was in the corner of the office, uncovered with a bunch of other body parts piled on top of it. Good luck!

 

How does it attach? Is it drilled? I may call my dealer and get the spoiler delete option before the car gets serialized. I like that spoiler better.

I'm going with a painted one from CDC once I get the scratch together to pay for it. They do recommend drilling though. Templates and screws are provided with the kit. Someone else recommended getting a new drill bit, splurge for a titanium one, to make sure the bit doesn't walk on you as you start. I would do it if you plan on driving highway.

 

For some reason I thought I saw a set of instructions and they had you drill/screw it on....did I misread something?

Order the painted one, it is perfect, CDC is a grweat company to deal with , if there is any problem with the paint they will send you another and pick up the bad one in 24 hrs at their cost...they have had no issues with paint
As far as install...combination of tape and bolts...TAKE YOUR TIME!!! Measure twice/ drill once!!
Invest in a uni-bit set , I would NOT use a drill :notnice: !

So you do have to drill for it. Is there any ducktails that you dont have to drill?

 

Thanks for the advice, I went ahead and ordered the painted on today They said they just got Tungsten in recently, so I'm in luck. Yeah... and what is uni-bit???

 

Is uni-bit a graduated bit? Is the advantage in not having to change bits to increase the holes diameter?

 

Order the painted one. Usually the body shop is going to charge you more than $100 for the paint work.

Just be careful you will make too big a hole if you're not. Make sure you have clearance on the back side of what you're drilling.

 

Yes, it is the graduated bit, and the biggest advantaged is it gives you a perfectly clean hole and it does not rip thru the metal as a drill does, it sort of counterbores its way thru, therefore NO grabbing which can leave you with a bad hole...once you use it you will love it, perfect for this application and great to have in your toolbox for later,
Saw a set of 3 in Home Depot for 47.00, but the same set is in Harbor freight for 19.00. hope this helps
