Painted Stripe Removal?

I have some boss like stripes painted on the sides of my car, they were done poorly but in a flat black with no clear coat over them, they feel like vinyl. A couple places have chips, and the paint has flaked off so you can see the original color.

I was wondering how hard/expensive it would be to get them removed. Im not sure If I would even need a complete repaint over them, because as ive said some of it can flake off..So if anyone has any ideas im open to hear them, because Im not sure what to do..

Do you know how they were put on - did someone just mask and shoot?

if they were just painted on the surface, maybe you could just sand down the stripe paint enough to get rid of it? Idk, this may be difficult.

Yeah, im pretty sure they just masked and shot it...

I was also thinking maybe it could be re masked and painted over/blended back to the original color. But in no paint/body guy so I don't know if that's even doable..

Here's a pic of the bumper, those pieces flaked off.

Sanding maybe your only choice but it will damage the original paint finish hence a re-paint will be required. The other choice you can do is try to put a vinyl adhesive on top and peel it back and see if it removes it OR cover it with a vinyl decal? Acetone may also work if you are brave enough but you will need to rinse it off quickly.

I thought about covering it, but I don't know any decals that would...I was also considering a "reverse" two tone, my color on top, black on bottom. Kinda like this(no Lamborghini doors though!)

Could this be done in vinyl? and still look good? I'm not sure how much vinyl would cost...or where to get custom vinyl done...

Any way to tell what they sprayed on? If its some spray can enamel, would a thinner work without hurting the clear?

I'd go to several autobody shops and ask their opinions. Get like four or five opinions/ideas on it. It might be a simple fix for an autobody shop. Hell, if it flaked off so easily you could try goo gone and see if it removes the rest of the paint. lol.

Alright, I will be doing this soon. Also, the stripes are obviously unique, and before I MIGHT get them painted on better, I wanted to know what you guys think, is the design okay? I told them to go above the door handle, because I thought they looked to "little"...so what do y'all think?

if you like the stripes, maybe just get them touched up and clear the whole car to give them a gloss/smooth feel

Any idea how much it'd cost? Sub $1k and it seems like the best option. Heck the entire car would like nicer.

I dont know, but doubt it would be that expensive...you'd still need to tape/peel/test adhesion on the rest of it to be sure its got a decent bond(but looks like just poorly cleaned around light cutouts before it was painted). might be worth asking a bodyshop to look into.
I had a 81 dodge pickup(put a 396 chevy in it no less) that was over cleared, that truck polished up better than any vehicle Ive ever had, still looked great when I got rid of it 10 years later... it was a dark brown metallic with gold stripes- sounds ugly but it looked pretty sharp- and after clearing the stripes were smooth edged, easy to wax, etc...
just gotta be sure the existing(remaining) black has enough adhesion to stay put...once sealed *I think* it should not deteriorate/lift any more- but youd need to be pretty certain its holding fast before 'setting it in stone' or a bigger problem might arise later...
