Painted callipers chiped

I just got my car back from the dealer. I brought it in for the air bag recall and they did me a favor and rotated my tires. What a favor!! They chipped the paint on 3 of my pained callipers and scrapped the Mustang lettering and pony on the front right calliper. I'm so pi$$ed.

Has anyone else had problems with their painted callipers chippng. I used the G2 paint and it held up fine for 3 years. I usually rotate my tires myself and never had any problems.

They look finr aside from the few small chips and the scrapped lettering on one of the callipers.

I've been wanting to paint my calipers for a long time but I keep hearing about chipping. Yours prolly would have gone a long time w/out chipping. Those mechanics are careless and do not care. I go to a shop by my house where it is family owned and the guy is a serious car enthusiast. They are competitive in pricing as well......

I had painted the calipers on my old 05 with a Dupli-color kit that I purchased at Wally-world. Inthe 3 years I owned that car the paint on the calipers survived at least 10 tire rotations, two sets of new tires, and all the debri lying around on the Arid-zona highways. In that regard I guess I was really lucky!!

I've had the G2 kit for a year now...... I got a small chip on the rear pass side.... but then after installing rotors and pads all of the calipers are pretty chipped up. Seems like it held up fine on the road, but as soon as you began handling them they chipped easy.

My painted calipers on my 07 did this. Usually if you weren't careful when you reinstalled the wheels onto the hub assembly. Just have extra paint and a fine brush will touch up a chip no problem.

That was my same problem when I had free rotation. Now since the 20's. I'll rotate my own wheels. G2 is guaranteed against chipping. Did you guys keep your warranty paper w/ contact information?

You are going to get chips, just like regular paint. The key to keeping the calipers looking good is prep. Make sure you wire brush the calipers good and clean them with brake cleaner. Other than that, make sure you put multiple coats on and follow the directions.

I'm planning on painting mine soon, so this is a timely post for me. Thanks for the heads up on prep and handling. I don't have to worry about rotation though as my tires are directional and diferent sizes front and back. Oh yeah and dealer techs.....

About 6 months ago, I got my new blue colored "CS" center caps from Shelby Wheels (the wheels came with red "CS" caps, and my car doesn't have ANY red on it). I was anxious to get them on the car, as I had a show the next morning. With these caps, they have to be removed from the back (no gaps for anything to get between the cap and wheel). Well, my dad was gone for the night, and I don't like to mount the pads for the lift, so I jacked the car up with a floor jack. Good idea, till I tried to mount the tire back on the hub, and chipped a small section of the caliper! After reading this, I now now, I'm not alone with them chipping. Got a new G2 kit, so I'll be touching them up before Carlisle 2008!!!

What Jason says. You've really got to clean those calipers. Follow the instructions to the letter, and take your time. Of course, nothing it going to protect you from careless service people, but if that paint is on there right to begin with it'll be a lot harder to chip it off.

Mine started to chip after a while and it looked terrible. The fronts are holding up fine, but the rears are just nasty. I have tried to chip all the paint off I can with a flathead screwdriver- I don't know what else to do...

I painted mine with the G2 and eventually got a few small chips. Since you can't keep the G2 after it's opened and mixed , I got a Dupli-Color kit which keeps and use it for touch up ...

I have found that Krylon Fusion works well. This is the paint designed for plastic parts. It's a rattle-can paint that costs about $5.
