Ok so I really want racing stripes to make my stang stand out (more than it already dose!) . . . My dad says that Vinyl stinks and that it will look like crap in 2 years from now . . . He thinks I shud shell out 1000 for painted on stripes . . . wat do ya'll think? . . . Is vinyl the better way to go or is paint worth the 1000 bucks?

If I got offered a quality job for $1,000 I'd jump on it. The cheapest I've been quoted from people who seemed to know what they were doing (and I've asked half a dozen paint shops in the area) was just under $2,000.

My opinion is that I would shell out the 1000. for painted ones. From all the pictures, you have a good feel of what it will look like.
I wanted to see what it would look like and be able to take it off if I did not like it. Painted Stripes are a goal of mine.

Personally, I love Vynil. I wouldnt go with painted. But of course, other people love painted stripes and go with it. It's whatever look you like more. I love the flat color vynil has (not a big person of shinny stripes)

vinyl will crack and fade in a few years, when I bought my mach 1 the stripes were all cracked and faded. When I had the car re-painted I had them paint the stripes on. They look real good.

This question seems to be a big debate, so I'll just state ahead of time this is my opinion.
If you can get a good job for 1000 go for paint, most places I checked were around 1800, under 1000 only if they didn't reclear the entire painted surfaces, just the stripes themself. Doing this IMO isn't the best way to go. If cost is a concern then vinyl is the obvious choice, I went with vinyl myself. If you find a place that will guarentee the vinyl and work you should be ok for more than 2 years, most places I spoke with guarenteed against fading and peeling for at least 5 years, if they dont give you a guarentee don't go with them. Another consideration is if you were ever in an accident with the car (hopefully this never happens) hard to say if the insurance would pay to have the stripes painted back on since they were not really part of the car, I would check with your insurance. Vinyl is cheaper in this situation as well.
Overall my opinion, paint is the way to go, but re-clear the entire surfaces so the stripes dont stand off the base. If cost is a concern and you want the look go for a good vinyl job, mine cost me $600, dont get the cheap vinyl from ebay for 50 bucks, if you want to do it yourself get something like from bobwhitedecals.com or find a good shop.

I personally went with vinyl. But ut was only temporary... I knew this when I put the vinyl on. I also did the vinyl myself to save even more. I bought cheap vinyl ($40 to do the whole car) and did it myself because it was temporary. I am in the process of saving up for painted stripes and that is what I will be doing within the next few months. I definitely say paint is best, and well worth the money. SO, if you really want stripes, save up for the paint.
