I went to an auto painter guy yesterday.

He has a concern about stripes. He thinks that the back of the car does not meld with the front of the car well.

If you look at the front hood we are talking about 38 inches between the two creases. The back of the car is 29 inches between the lights.

In his opinion the narrow stripes do not look good going down the length of the car.

I would put two 14 inch stripes down the center, seperated by 1 inch.
And since I want the bumpers to be painted too I want them to avoid the lights in back.

He thinks that you could angle the stripe wider in front to narrow in back!
What would this look like?

Give your opinions. He has given me some ideas, but I want to read this forum's opinions too.

Good idea, but 14" is WAY too wide. 10-11" looks a LOT better.
I agree that something just doesn't look right about the stripes in the back.

14" stripes are pretty fat stripes. I think most of the people that have striped have gone with the Shelby style of stripes and they look great.

Post your picts later. I have the time.

The paint guy thought that since the hood was so wide, that the widest stripes would look best. I had the opinion that he liked wider stripes than me. His angle idea may have been a compromise.

The best style I have seen so far used the original shelby stripe dimensions. Someone on here is bound to have the diagram showing the measurements.

Hey Puchy, welcome to the forums. Somewhere in the forum someone posted a pic that they put those style stripes on the car. The thinnest section is around 9". Personally I don't like the way they look. This car is a different body style. The old stripe pattern does not work or look right in my opinion, but hey, that's just my opinion.

If you think it through. His idea would be to have the stripe wider in the front. Say two 18 inch stripes 2 inches apart. The Rear stripes would be 14 inches wide 1 inch apart. The lines would angle together so from the front upper view it would seem that they were the same width the whole way. An illusion of the eye.

Shelby-style "Le Mans" stripes are narrower at the leading edge of the hood than they are at the base of the windshield. Same goes for the rear where they are narrower at the end of the trunk than they are at the base of the rear glass.

Given that the trunk is short, it isn't that noticeable. It is VERY measurable on the hood of the classics.

My suggestion is that you research the Shelby stripes, mock up a similar set with tape, and squint real hard.

There is an aesthetic reason for the changing stripe width, and it has to do with the way the stripes look if they are uniform width... they tend to look like they are too fat in the front and look like they get skinnier as they go back! To counter this effect, they make them taper towards the ends of the car.

Good info.

This guy's idea is different in that the stripes do not bow out in the center but rather starts big and then gets narrower.

I like them ther LEEE MAWN stripes tho.

Well I have thunk it over and I will do them thar LEEMAWN stripes fo shor.

Now, more seriously, I have to get the opinion on color.

I personally think that Mineral Grey gives three options.

1. Black
2. White

3. Dark Shadow Grey Silver would not look as good.

Some how I got it in my head that these Dark Shadow Grey stripes will look really subdued. Real Cool.

I like the dark shadow grey idea. Something different, should look great if you get the right amount of color in it.

On a sillier note, I was considering skull and crossbone wheel caps.( instead of ponies) They would go well with the dark shadow grey. Maybe a skull and bones on the hood over the stripes. Raider Nation comes to mind there though. (I'm a Steeler fan)

What is the undercoat color of dark shadow grey?

I know that white is under Mineral Grey. At least that is what I was told.

The charcoal interior of my car makes me like the dark shadow grey idea even more.
