I'm having a big problem with this body shop painting my California Dream hood. So far, they've painted it 3 times and everytime the paint color is noticeably off. Their excuse is the fiberglass won't match the metal when painted. Then they want to paint the fenders to "blend" it in. I told them heck no, the car is 8 months old, the paint has been maintained, waxed, etc. I finally told them I'd pay em $125 and take my hood elsewhere ($125 was for labor cost, paint material was gonna vary.) I went ahead and put the hood on for the time being so I can show the next paint shop how bad the color is off. :bang: :bang: :bang:

They painted my Ca Dream Hood and matched my Sonic Blue perfectly the first time. I get comments all the time about how well people think the paint matches or questions about whether the hood came stock or not. You just got an inept body shop. It aint the fiberglass's fault! I would think that Screaming Yellow would be easier to match than Sonic Blue as well, so I see no excuse for those painters. :nono:

I definately agree. They've had my darn hood for 5 weeks to top it off. Good part is, they got the stripes painted right at least

I'll post a pic later, they are on my home computer.

Just not right. I got my Ca Dream hood, a CDC front spoiler, and SSE ducktail painted and installed in just 3 days. $760 with a long-as-you-own-the-car warranty on the paint. They did a great job and use pictures of my car in their advertising!

My problem here is I'm not from Vicksburg, MS, so I don't know who is good and who isn't. I talked with lady that's the daughter of a lady I work with who had hail damage repair on her car. They had to repaint the truck, hood, and one rear quarter panel. Paint matches perfect, so I guess I'll check with them next.

I sure hope you are not paying $125.00 for that. A good job will cost a lot more than that.

Here's some pics. Daylight photo is hard to tell, it's even hard to tell in person during the day, but I know it's off. The night pic shows the paint mismatch better.

yeah, you can tell in the 2nd pic. and just my opinion, but when you have it re-done get the "ram air" intake part of the hood painted black or something, just not yellow.

but who really cares what i think - i am just a v6 member and i drive 99...so what do i know

I think they're using the wrong base tone. The hood looks like Zinc Yellow instead of the newer Screaming Yellow. I was told that the difference in all the yellows (Chrome, Zinc, Screaming) is the base tone. I don't know much else, but maybe that info will be of some use.

Yeah, I plan on getting it done in silver, grey, or something similiar. Don't really wanna do em black since it'd make the stripes look weird IMO.

Thanks for the info, hopefully I find someone willing and, more importantedly, able this week.

Found a shop that said they could match it no problem. Taking the hood in Monday, guy said Wednesday afternoon at the latest it'd be done. Gonna paint the scoop grills grey/silver as well. I feel pretty good about it after talking to this guy, he seemed to know what he was talking about. Hopefully it turns out good...
