Paint to match parts?

I have some bumpers on order that are paint match. What kind of prep work is needed on the parts before paint and clear can be applied?

My paint guy says that he has been having a hard time getting paint to stick to untreated plastic parts . ie when the paint gets chipped, pressure washing causes major chuncks of paint to come off. =/

Anyone have insight on what the propper procedure is for painting these parts?

I've ordered a take off hood and front bumper from newtakeoff.com

There was no prep time at all. Just take of the old put on the new. Paint matched perfectly!! You got to think, this day in time Joe Blow is not in the back mixing up some paint.. it's all computer from the factory so you got a 99% chance of it matching up. I've got an 06 Redfire GT.

GET A NEW PAINTER!!! Plastic bumper covers habe been on cars for decades now, if he hasn't figured it out - don't let him touch your car.

There's all kinds of adhesion promotors, etc, but HE needs to know what to use, how to apply, when to apply it, etc...

GET A NEW PAINTER!!!

Well the painter happens to be my bud, so I know he does care.
That is why he warned me =). and because he is my bud i'm only getting charged for materials so free install, free paint app.

The story from him is 99.9 of the plastic parts he does paint are refurb bumpers that is when he gets them they are pretreated for adhesion. Those ones work fine.

The problem comes in when new parts come in to the shop that are not pretreated which appearly does not happen that often in his neck of the woods. That is mostly do to the autopac rules in our province. That is you only get new replacement parts if your vechilce is less than one year old. after that cut off date you get refurb parts.

So the short answer is yes he does not know the propper procedure for paint adhesion to plastic.

So after talking it over, we are going to take the new parts to the refurb shop and have them treat them. Then I should be good to go.
