Be sure to hit your pieces to be painted with a primer first. The paint will adhere better if you do this.

Too bad they don't offer the paint in high-temp versions. I'd love to paint my calipers in redfire. I sent them an email asking if it was possible and will let everyone know their response.

Here's the response I received regarding brake caliper application:

Sir,

The paint is not designed for hi-temp applications, but it will work on brake calipers. It won’t work on exhaust headers, cylinder heads, that type of extreme heat situations; but brake calipers, valve covers, any medium heat application will be fine.

And READ the instructions. Is it primer or sealer? If its primer you will have to sand it before you paint it.

Quick "HOW TO" for novice painters

1 - Sand louvers 400 grit wet/dry or a fine scotch pad.
2 - Prime...let dry (Be sure its dried the proper amount of time...VERY improtant)
3 - Sand (I would use 600grit and wetsand) Try not to sand through thr primer. Some colors like windveil blue are transparent.
4 - Clean with a clean cloth and preferably some wash and wipe...see your local autoparts store. If ya dont have wash and wipe clean with warm water...let dry.
5 - When spraying the paint keep the can at a steady distance and use full strokes over the item. Be patient you will need at least 3 coats to cover. For your basecoat (color) give it about 5 min. between coats to dry.
6 - When spraying your clear give it about 15 min. between coats. Here its improtant to NOT get a heavy spray. You dont want runs. But you still want the clear to go on with a "wetlook". Again patients is VERY key during this stage.
7 - Let dry. Depending on temp. dry times can be anywhere from 2 hrs. +. The longer the better !!

Thanks for the update. Glad it was an internet problem and not the whole place. I would hate to have to use brushed paint for the body pieces... It never comes out as good.

NICE!!! Thanks for the tip - I'd been looking for a site like this for a long time.....would you know if they can do the interior Ford colors too? My dealer can't order the "Light Parchament" color for my '05 F-150 - only the medium and dark parchament.....

 

They have a "Ford light parchment gold" listed using code BQ.

So any of you guys who painted their louvers back in May have any pictures to post or any comments on how the finish came out?

I just droped mine off at an automotive paint shop to be painted for $200, cheapest place I could find, then I stumble across this thread about an hour later.

Anyways, let me know how these things turned out by doing it yourself. I still might be able to get them back before the shop goes into work on them

 

Some of you guys mentioned your model kits. Where can you get those? All I find are diecast pre-assembled.

 

is one can of clearcoat, primer and paint enough to do a CDC Chin Spoiler? thoughts?
