New Smooth Line Hard Top For Verts

Found this on another forum and thought I would share... definitely a pricey option, but at least they will be making them for our cars.

I would really like to see some more details on how they mount and if there is a risk for rubbing.

And at 65lbs., this would be a bit awkward to install without help.

Interesting. I'd be a lot more interested for 1/2 the price

I'd also be interested, but the introductory price of $1900 + shipping (couple hundred bucks there) and then getting it painted ...

interested, but not that much.

I totally missed that it still had to be painted! Add another $400 for that alone. FAIL.

neat idea...but pricey, and SHR louvers wont fit

'tinted plexiglas' scares me tooo- they shoulda at least used tinted lexan/polycarbonate...plexi spidercracks too easily, and I dont think it handles UV very well either?

I prefer the original's - but nice to see others trying.

Compared to others, such as the Miata top, these really aren't too pricey at all especially considering a limited marketplace. I love that they copied the OEM appearance of the coupe, and could be really nice for people that want to drive their verts in the winter with a bit more insulation and protection.

I do wish they came painted, though.

I think they are pretty sweet. All the looks of a coupe (almost) and all the fun of a vert. 65 lbs would be pretty precarious for one person, though, and the price is pretty steep.

Well, in fairness to Smoothline...their design is probably exactly what Ford would have done if they designed an accessory hardtop for the Mustang With yours, Ford mimicked the OEM coupe lines. Smoothline did the exact same thing with this top for the 05-09s.

I want to know where the retractable hardtop vert is! Now THAT would be cool.

Sorry for the picture quality. i have just yesterday evening installed smoothline hard top,
just windows are sticked with a tape only to take a drive to the service shop where they will do the rest. looks great lines and etc. Actually same as the original coupe version not convertible.

Will post when done finially in few days. But already seems to be fine

Actually, it is just the opposite. Acrylic (Plexiglas) is very weatherable for decades with little problem, look at all the WWII airplanes whose canopies still look clear. OTOH, headlight covers are now made from polycarbonate (Lexan) and look how quickly they cloud up. Polycarbonate is inherently non-weatherable, although some gets a thin coextruded layer of acrylic to try and extend its life.

If you plan to drive the car year round and see some cold winter temps where you won't ever be taking the top down a hard top is a nice thing to have.

Nothing is "wrong" with it. The cloth tops are awesome. Just cool to have a very flexible vehicle.
