So far, the most significant "mod" that I've made is the "conversion" (a.k.a. trade-in) from a Mineral Gray GT to the current Torch Red one. For more information see:

http://forums.bradbarnett.net/index.php?showtopic=15436

Anyway, last night Jim Arba from Phat Customs in Oakley, CA, brought me one step closer to having a tribute car to the legendary Shelby GT350. The pics and specs are below:

Stripes
Vinyl
10 3/4" with a 1" gap

Interior
Momo Corso Aluminum Shift **** with drilled holes (http://store.racinglab.com/mof16shknl.html)
Billet Bullet Style Door Pins (www.upr.com)
Mustang Designer AC **** kit (www.upr.com)

Miscellaneous
SLP Loudmouth Exhaust (sound file to follow soon)
"Objects in Mirror" sticker (www.mwspeedshop.com)

Before anyone flames me for putting the GT350 moniker on the rocker panels, remember 1) this is a tribute car to the original GT350, and 2) I believe that naming this car a GT350 is as valid as the foundation upon which Shelby used when he named the GT350 because the factory floor was 350 feet away from his office. I am not claiming that this car has 350HP or has a 350 cubic inch engine or anything like that. It's a tribute car.

Next up on my list of mods are 19" wheels (I am still looking for the perfect ones - suggestions appreciated), Eibach spring kit, rear quarter window scoops or louvers, new Shelby-style hood, Drivesoft system, and new Momo or Sparco seats.

Thanks, Vegas Jay. Your ride convinced me that I should go ahead and do it this way.

BTW - I can't wait to see your Shelby hood.

Graphics Express is making the same side stripes but they have GT300 on them. That way you can have the LOOK but be unique in the naming of your car. Just received mine today and they are quality stripes. When I have them installed I will post a few pics.

There are probably more "tribute" or "clone" Shelbys out there than real ones. They aren't making the classic real ones anymore, so we do what's second best, imitate, and that's cool! Your car looks great. I plan on doing something similar in Sonic Blue, and I may even go so far as to get the "tribute" kit from Mustang F/X and have it registered. Yeah, I know, it's just stickers and badges, and a signature from the old man himself, but like rcinco says, it's a tribute. Heck, they put GT500 stripes on the GTs and reserve GT350 for the V6s  , but Carroll approves, so who are we to question? Great job rcinco!

Thanks. I appreciate your feedback. Actually, I was having a really hard time deciding between Sonic Blue and Torch Red. The latter won out simply because my dealer had it on the lot, and they had just sold the Sonic Blue one they had.

BTW - could you please expound on the tribute kit from Mustang F/X and what it means (and how) to have it registered?

Good thing they sold the Sonic or you might still be there trying to decide! Looks great, I am considering stripes when mine arrives next month but still undecided. I kind of like the Mach I look some have done with a black stripe. Good job!

rcinco,
Mustang F/X is a company in Tallahasse, Fla. that creates appearance kits, primarily decals and badges to create a "Tribute Edition" Shelby Mustang. The guy also creates turnkey models with mechanical modifications that go for as much as $60k, including supercharged Eleanor clones made from the 05s. Some of his cars are sold through Florida dealerships. I was leery at first, but I saw one of his cars featured in a Mustang Monthly publication, and I also checked with Shelby American Licensing, Inc. and the SAAC. They all say he's legit. Whether what he does is your cup of tea is another thing. I can see purists turning up their noses immediately, but for $100 you get a certificate signed by Shelby himself. I asked, and it is an actual signature, not a stamped or printed one. Reference this other thread... Tribute Shelby

All right, vegasjay, you are killing me! Do you have any idea how long I took me to decide on a color? I like most of them! After months I decided on Sonic Blue with the intention of Shelbyizing it. And there you are living in a blast furnace-dust bowl, and you have BLACK. The most gorgeous black and white Shelby clone I've seen on these forums. Ok the only black and white one, but  . How did you decide on black, when you live someplace so hot and dusty? The color combo would never have occured to me, but it certainly works! (Your car gives me goosebumps, too, rcinco, I just never expected black and white could look so good.) Given the difficulty in cleaning black, do you have any regrets? (Actually, red doesn't have that much better of a reputation for being easy to keep clean.)
I have studied that kit from Mustang F/X a little more, and there are new pics on the website of an '05 version. I'm not sure...I don't like the "gas cap" decal, they got rid of the signature decal on the trunk, the CS fender badges look a little too small, and I definitely don't care for the Shelby cartoons on the rear quarters. Seemed cool at first, but it's getting iffy now...

Thanks, backafter20, I appreciate the kind words. I gotta tell you, though, Torch Red is really easy to keep clean. It hides dirt as well as Mineral Gray (almost).

Looks good but is it just me or do the stripes on the back have a nasty angle on them? If I didn't go sonic blue with white I would have gone Torch red with white. Looks nice

The stripes on the back are not perfectly straight. They curve in a little toward the bottom (but the angle of curvature is even to the eye).

The installer said that the putting stripes on this car was definitely one of the most difficult professional jobs he's ever done. It took him over ten hours to do the job, but he did it with a smile and for under $400.
