New grille

This is my new grille from Shelby International. I fabbed up the trim rings out of 1/8'' aluminum around the driving lights. The pony emblem is a metal reproduction of the '66 GT350 grille emblem. I have the first grill they sold for the V-8 GT cars and paid $160 for it and $190 for the PIAA lights. They have since marked the price up to $650 for the complete grill including them building it with a new OEM grill for the base which is gutted first. They originally sent the kit to me, but with no instructions, wrong brackets and no support whatsoever. After *****ing for 3 days they paid to have me ship it back to them so they could fab up the proper light brackets which are completely different than the supplied V-6 grill brackets. They changed the price on their website to $650 and insist on building them in house from now on.

Personally, I don't care for the look. As long as you do, that's the important thing!

So the grille was made w/out the shelby letters or did you take it off yourself?

Can't say I like it either, but I'm not overly fussy about a lot of stuff in the grille. I'd probably like them more if they were black like the grille. It would give it a meatier appearance while not being too flash.

The kit comes with the letters. When I sent it all back to them for assembly I didn't include the letters, but the jackazzes put a new set on anyway. I took them off.

How were they attached? I was thinking about purchasing the grille and getting rid of the letters...

They have a metal strip that is on the back side of the grill with holes in it which are pre drilled for the letters. Each letter has a couple of pin like studs on the back side of them which push through the grille and into the metal strip that's on the back side of the grille. They are held in place by flat sheet metal clips that slip on to the pin/studs that are part of the letters. They come off with a screwdriver by prying them.

If you order a grille for a GT, just ask them not to put them on. If you order a grille for a V-6 you will receive a kit for you to modify your OEM grille yourself and you can just not use them.

Typically I wouldn't be enthusiastic, but on a car that's that mean and nasty, it works nicely. Definitely looks like a car that you're better off not picking a fight with...

Black, flared, striped, and FMIC-I think if I'm in a 350z I am suddenly going to try to find something in my center console or dial a phone number as the light is changing green-wouldn't want to provoke....

What's up man? I am at home but I am awaiting my ride to England where I have been transferred. Luckily I won't go to Iraq for a while but it sucks leaving the Stang in the garage for 2 years. Luckily my wife to be is in love with the car and wants me to keep it.

Your car is looking tough for sure man!!! Keep up the godo work, I will be watching jealously from a far!

Take care
Jesse

Anthony , how is the overall quality of the grille ? I assume the grille part is metal , but what is the part that the lights are in made out of ? Do the lights hook up to the factory harness ? Thanks ...

All parts are aluminum and stainless steel. The quality is very good. The lights are mounted from behind with aluminum brackets and I just cut the factory harness plugs off and soldered/heat shrink tubed the PIAA plugs in their place, so I can still just unplug the lights when pulling the fascia off in the future. There is a rubber ''grommet like'' piece that fits in the light openings to keep the lights from vibrating or scratching against the grill.

I also disassembled the thing when they sent it to me and sanded the original grill border which is re-used. I sprayed it with adhesion promoter and painted it semi-flat black for a perfect match to the grill. That's not necessary though. I just wanted it to be as close to perfect as possible. My son didn't do that and it looks decent.

If you end up getting one don't forget to tell them not to install the Shelby letters if you don't want them. I had to remove the letters which caused me to have to touch up the paint a bit.
