This is a pretty **** good compromise.
Actually what I am saying is that we shouldn't have to compromise, not at $400. How much would it have cost them to add 3 diodes, 3 "and" gates, and 3 "not" gates per side? This is down in the pennies noise level with todays logic arrays and micro circuits. The circuit below is all it would have taken and I boxed it in green to indicate it could have been a part of the sequencer. For clarity I left out the ground side of the circuit and the backup lights. The trigger could either be the brake/turn line as it is currently or a wire from each of the front turn signals which would cause the sequencing to occur only when your turn indicator was on and not when you depress the brakes. Heck, it took me longer to draw this circuit than it did to design it.

Somewhat late to the party I guess.....but none the less, I've now got them on my 07 Alloy Grey. The smoked lenses compliment the Alloy I think. And of course, the lighting system itself is just great and very visible.

Looks really good!

On the dark colours, the black panel isn't a necessity.
It blends in more.

I took off my panel as I have to fix it, and it looks plain without it.

Thanks! I think you're absolutely right about the tail lamps blending well with darker colors. My buddy saw mine and has now put a set in his Race Red Roush Trak Pak. I haven't seen it yet, but I'm betting they will look OK with his red, as the rest of the car has black stripping and accents on it as well.

Gen 5 Lights

I purchased the lights and a smoked LED 3rd brake light from AM. I agree that the Gen 5 lights do look best with a black panel, or in my case paint.

There is an issue with the smoked LED 3rd brake lights though. The smoke is so subdued it looks clear. AM checked their stock and all of the ones they have are that way. They sent me the vinyl to cover it to see if that saves the day. Jury is still out, as I haven't received the vinyl yet. Lot's of reviews complain of a bad fit on the light.

Any similar observations out there?

Yeah, the lack of tint on that third light kills it. I also remember reading reviews that said the light still glows after the car is turned off...has that been fixed?

Instead of buying a whole new 3rd brake light, why not just get tinted plastic film for taillights and cover it. Wouldnt it be cheaper?

I already had one replaced.
The light wasn't flat across the back and was bowed enough to create a gap and let water into the trunk. I noticed this washing it a week or so after I installed it.

They replaced it and the new one doesn't have this issue, unless it happens over time with heat.

You're right though, it isn't so much smoked as it is clear.
The light looks great when lit though, very bright.

Can anyone confirm or deny if the led third still glows when it's off?

And those that just have tint...does it look odd having the other taillights light up faster?

On lots of LED lights you have to install a resistance to shot them instantly, or else they still glow until all the power is drained in the wiring

Mine does not stay lit like others have said.
I wonder though if they have other LEDs in the system (side markers etc)

The Raxiom rears + Smoked 3rd LED are all I changed, neither stay lit.

I did have this issue with my map lights though with 2 replacement Phillips LEDs.
