Need color help with next exterior mods
OK, so my next mods - to really capture the look I'm after, I think and hope - are to add the CDC Classic Chin spoiler and a hood scoop (I may end up having to lower it too).
I'm still debating what to do with the hood scoop - whether to go functional, like the RK Sport Ram Air Hood; whether to use a "stick-on" and to make it functional by cutting up my hood underneath (such as one person did here with the Roush scoop); or whether to use a "stick-on" and keep it non-functional, i.e., purely aestetic.
Regardless, assume that I will have some sort of scoop there (not sure on the model) -
What color scheme do you think would look best?
I kind of like the idea of black accents, but not sure if it would look funny, especially now with the louvres and mirrors painted redfire. Maybe I should just keep the redfire theme up.
Help me decide!!
I'm sort of in the way in this picture, but I think its the best one I have that gives an idea of what I'm looking at, in terms of the side-look.

I'm attaching a couple other pictures that are sort of "inspiration" for me, i.e., show, to one degree or another, the look I'm after.
May need to make another post. There are some "Mach 1" looking ones, a couple ones with the spoiler and/or hood scoop painted body color, some with a shaker, etc. I think this should give you a good idea.
Thanks to the folks whose pictures I borrowed - I like your rides!

This is a tough one. I know you want to go with the whole Mach/Boss look having the black scoop/shaker and black chin spoiler. But the thing is, you have the louvers. The only Mustang that I know of that had a black hood scoop and also had 1/4 louvers, was the '68 Cobra Jet. But, that had no rear spoiler and no chin spoiler. So, either way you will be mixing and matching something.
So, I guess try not to go for a theme... and just go with what you think looks right. If you have the money, get the CDC Shaker for sure. You can't go wrong with that. But if you want to save some cash, the Roush scoop is a great alternative. I would definitely make it functional though. If you get the Roush scoop, I'd paint it gloss black and put a single gloss black stripe on the hood (like the pic of the Cobra Jet below). Maybe even do a C-stripe if you like that look. If you go that way... I'd think about painting the chin spoiler to match the car... that way it won't really look like a chin spoiler, but more like a part of the bumper. That's the route I'm going. I like the look of the CDC classic chin spoiler and how it makes the front look lower and more aggressive, but I have a '65-'68 Shelby theme going and there were no chin spoilers on those cars.
So, you'd basically still have a '68 Cobra Jet theme going with your 1/4 louvers, and if you got a C-stripe and the black hood scoop/stripe. You'd just have an extra rear and front spoiler, painted to blend in with the car.

Jack,
Of course you know that it doesn't matter what we think about what you do with your car, but I asked also, and found help in what others had to say, so I'll add my 2 cents. I love Acadians car, but I don't necessarily think that your louvers kill the whole Boss/Mach 1 idea. Bosses/Mach didn't really have separate rear quarter windows, either. They were more extensions of the door glass, so if a Mach/Boss look is what you're looking for, go for it. You're not making an exact replica, anyway, but a tribute that pays homage to styles of the past. If you can afford it, oh yeah, the CDC or Fang shaker would be awesome! I really like a '70 style Mach 1 center stripe on the hood, but I'd make it and the CDC classic spoiler in a semi-gloss, not a true flat black. It will be easier to care for. I just received my CDC classic in the mail today, and it literally just snaps into place, the fit is so good. (use screws, however) Go hereAuto Trim Design or here Graphic Express for some great stripe ideas. I think Redfire makes an awesome Boss or Mach 1, and you probably can't go wrong with the look. Just do what you like! I'm going to put snakes on my fenders, despite teasing I might get here. I accepted all of the advice that others gave, then I did what I wanted. You do the same, but that shaker sure would be the cherry on top if you can swing it. BTW, making a scoop functional is not as easy as it sounds. Just cutting a hole doesn't get the air to the engine. I am getting the RK California Dream hood, but I just realized that the intake sucks air UP through the filter. Cutting a hole in the intake box just bypasses the filter, which doesn't help. Now I need a CAI. Look before you leap, or cut.

Thanks for the advice guys. Yeah, I'm not real worried about sticking exactly to a given style - I really just like how the look of the spoiler, scoop, and louvres is aggressive. I'm really just personally torn on whether to keep it all red(fire) or to integrate some black, maybe to make some hints at a Boss/Mach 1 look. That's why I started the poll - just wanted to see what thoughts some of you guys have. So I appreciate the input. That Cobra Jet is sick.
I sort-of like the shaker, but think it would be hard to make it functional with the JLT CAI, and I am of the camp that it looks a little small on the hood - although it definitely looks nice in some pictures, like in the sonic blue above.
Anyway, keep the ideas coming!
(btw - if anyone can photoshop the third thumbnail in the first post, so that all the black parts (spoiler, rocker stripes, hood stripe, hood scoop, and mirrors) are redfire, that would be hella-helpful
, since I'm really wondering how it would look all red versus being broken up with some black. That's a great picture, btw!

Edit: btw, I may eventually attempt a ducktail, too... but I'll worry about that later.

It all depends on what you are going for. The Redfire chin/hood is cleaner, while the Mach1 copycat is a little meaner, more muscle car "hey, I miss (or missed) the 60s/70s" look.
Once you decide the look you want for your car, the answers will start to become easier. Most peole here will give you the look they want for their car, and that will only make it more confusing.

Backafter20, I like your comments. I agree with doing whatever you want with your car. By the way, just to let you know (as well as anyone else interested) my Roush scoop is fully functional. I didn't just cut a hole in the hood... I routed the air directly to the air filter with some flat plastic tubing. Eventually I will build a heat shield "box" around the filter and close it all up. But making the Roush scoop functional is fairly easy... can't be too much harder than cutting a hole in your hood for the Shaker, and setting it all up. But for a fraction of the cost.
Say what, Acadian? I'm interested. If this is too far off topic, please start a new thread. Please share how to make a functional hood, like with the Ca. Dream hood I have ordered. What flat plastic tubing? A tutorial with pics would surely benefit more than just me. I'm kinda new at this, and could use the help. Sorry for diverting the topic, Jack. I vote for the black accents with the redfire. Car looks cool.
I need to take some time and start a new thread about this. I made one a while back when I initially cut the hole in the hood and made a semi-ram air setup by cutting a small hole in the hood insulation over the air filter, and then removing the insulation clip between the hood scoop and air filter. So, the air was coming in and going between the hood and insulation, and most of it drawn to the filter. I got some flat plastic 'accordian-like' gutter at the hardware store... the stuff you put at the bottom of gutters. I'll try to get some time and start a new thread with info and pics one of these days.
Now I have one more option to consider.
Jack, I very much like all the cars that have been shown so far. IMO, the yellow stang looks like something I would buy on the used market. It shows itself as a car that might have come from the manufacturer that way. I know I'am prolly not explaining correctly, but if I had to split hairs, I think the yellow one looks more finished. (All the cars are beautiful, please don't get me wrong on this)!

If you like the shaker I say go for it. I have the MMR intake and I am making a custom enclosure for the air filter so I can connect it to the output of the shaker. Pics don't do it justice. It is a really nice setup.

(I actually suggested fabricating a custom box based on the JLT heat shield to you in another thread - was curious what you had ultimately decided to do. Keep us informed.
