Thumbs up

Fellow Stangers,

Alright, I admit to being stumped. I looked for a previous post on this, but it seems I may be the only one who couldn't figure this out on his own! Anyway, here's the problem I'm having...

I bought Ford's Mustang mudflaps, part number F6ZZ*16A550*BA. These are hard rubber mudflaps, rear only. They come with mounting screws, but not pre-drilled mounting holes. I suppose this is so they can be mounted to any Mustang. The difficulty is that I was looking at where to mount them on my '05. I found 2 screws on the back on each rear wheelwell, which would be just dandy to mount them to. However, the top screw is too high. If I mounted the mudflap that high, only about an inch or so of it would show, not enough to do the job. And if I mount it lower, only the bottom screw would hold it, allowing it to pivot.

Obviously, and according to the directions, I will need to drill the body at the back of the wheelwell to get more than one screw on it. I am *NOT* willing to do that at this point in time. I would rather wash it that much more often and eat the $25 I spent on the mudflaps than drill my body panels.

So, my question is, can anyone think of a good way to mount these mudflaps that doesn't involve drilling the body? Thanks for your help!

Take those over priced pieces of "carp" back to the dealer.

They are a horrible design and look to me, in the long run they eill trap dirt and cuase rust.

Go to the parts store and get sme &5.00 black flaps.

At the rear wheel you can use the orignial screws from the existing holes.

Just tape them on at fisrt and stand behind your car to see the best placement. Use the vertical line that devides the rear quarter and the rear bumper as your starting point. Get the flap to look good, then "press"
it firmly and you can feel the screw head through the vynil flap.

OR... take out the screws and lay down under the car and use a marker.
Put tip through the holes and there you go.

SIDE NOTE: Screw top fisrt then pull the flap down "SLIGHTLY" giving you a slim 1/8" to 1/16" gap between the flap and the fender lip.

This will prevent any dirt from lodging in between the to .....and you can just water spray the dirt out.
Let me know how it works out ...just ask if i can help

I ended up using the existing holes on both the front and rear fender wells for mounting plain black mudflaps that I purchased from Auto Zone. I removed the screws and placed a small flat piece of blue-tac (poster putty) over the hole. I then placed the mudflap where I wanted it and pressed REALLY hard. When the mudflap was removed, a small button was formed in the blue-tac indicating where the hole needed to be drilled. It may take a couple of tries to get the orientation of the mudflap just right, but you will only have to drill once. Make sure to drill the holes no larger than the ones in the fender (rear) and skirt (front).

Best of luck!

You can get the molded rear flaps made for the 05. The holes are pre-drilled and match up exactly. Use a 45 degree philips driver so you don't have to take the wheels off to install.

I was going to do this but had clear vinyl installed behind the wheels to protect the paint.

Iceman,

Are the ones you are referring to Ford or aftermarket? I can see pit already behind my front wheel wells....I hate to put mud flaps one, but I really think they save the paint in the long run.

P.S. I don't live or drive in mud and snow (except when I bought the car).

I got mine from a ford dealer they were a few bucks cheaper than the ones on the offical ford site. I believe they were about $35.00 for the two rear + a few bucks more for shipping.

I bought mine from the Ford dealer too. They fit perfectly and had no problems whatsoever installing them. I paid about $35 or so for them.

Janet,

I see, you got the molded ones. I didn't get those, I got the regular kind. That may be the problem. We'll see, anyway. There's got to be at least one way to skin this cat, I'll figure out a way that doesn't look too trashy and get them on there. Thanks, everyone for your help, lot of good suggestions.
