A More Authentic One-Off BULLITT

Ever wonder what the 08 BULLITT would look like if it were a bit more authentic to the GT390? The '08 BULLITT is nice, but...
  • What's with the plain hood? Why doesn't it resemble the hood of the 68 GT390?
  • Why weren't authentic looking louvers installed on the quarter panels windows?
  • Couldn't the front fascia have resembled the 68 GT390 a little more closely?
This K.L. Jones built his own BULLITT before Ford released the 08 BULLITT. I have to say, he did a grand job of depicting what the car should look like. Not only did he get it close, but he beat Ford to the punch and made a better looking BULLITT than Ford did.

Feast your eyes on this one-off beauty.

Not sure if it's more "authenic", but that is a very nice car. It made the rounds here last year. I agree with about the hood. Apparently, the louvers were not added because Ford didn't want to deal with liability issues. Personally, I think the current fascia looks way more like the original car than the GT500 fascia.

Ford made it clear its priority with the current generation Mustang design was a combination of Mustang roots, evolution, and progression not a carbon copy of any particular model year.

Exactly.

I'm happy with their outcome

Side window louvers and Boy Racer hood are available on Mustangs Unlimited for $159.95 and $649.95:

I can see Ford's side on their Bullitt. Production costs were a concern, so no fancy hood or louvers. I like the front end on Jones' car, particularly the fog lights, but he went too understated with the rear. I can understand his logic in removing the "Bullitt" trim but I don't get painting over the horse on the windshield and replacing the Mustang sill plates. Jones' mirrors are uglier than Ford's stock mirrors and Ford's Bullitt has a cooler interior.

Off-topic but there's a couple of cool renderings of a concept two-door 2010 Charger on this same ponysite. (Not from Chrysler but from Doug Schramm.)

Looks pretty good. Is a two door in the works?

I doubt it. Chrysler could certainly right a wrong by putting the Charger name on a car that looks like a Charger. They could still keep the current four-door, call it a Magnum and keep selling them as cop cars.

There was a guy who made his own bullitt before the bullitt came out, and he made his own hood too

is this the same guy? I can't remember any of the other details about the car..

It is the same car.

The exterior work done is first class. The interior is flashed with wood grain trimmings closely matching the 1968 model's original design.

Alright, it would be cool if two people had put that much effort into making a hood... lol

As closely matching as the wood is, I can't get past how much I don't like. It doesn't quite feel at home in the new body, but to each his own. its still a pretty sweet caar

Id like to see a 2 door charger. The SRT 8 looks awesome in black.

It looks like a cross between the Challenger and a Camaro

According to the Bullitt development team they wanted the '68 style twin reverse scoop hood, but one wouldn't work with the CAI. No doubt cost was an issue as well especially if the hood would be for only 7700 cars.

MRT has been slow getting their version out. Could be the same reason.

Moved to the exterior mods since it isn't the one Ford released and it is just that, exterior mods, but man, it sure does look nice.

Right...?

What was the original Bullitt? Certainly not a car modified by Ford.

This car was released before the 08 Bullitt and is a tribute to the 68 GT390 used in the movie Bullitt. Any Mustang modified to resemble the Mustang used in Bullitt is worthy enough to be placed in the "Bullitt" area.

Chalk up yet another Bullitt thread now misplaced in an area where Bullitt enthusiast will not find it.

Maybe this thread should be moved to the "GT Performance" section since the car is lowered.

Maybe this thread should be moved to the "interior mods and audio" section so people can look at the woodgrain treatment and aluminum ball shifter.

They should have called the 4 Dr Charger a Coronet R/T.I've had a couple of 67'R/T's.they could have sold that name instead of using an icon nameplate.

At least for now there is a shadow for it in the Bullitt forum.

I think it's more Bullitt related than not even if the car isn't a Bulllitt by Ford.
