LED taillight question.

I installed the very nice Smoked LED taillights on Whinnie last weekend. But, it just occurred to me that the inner most lights of both lights is not lit at any time on mine. Is this how they are supposed to be? Or do I have a plug not correct?

Ok, so I know that all three segments are supposed to be lit. But, I tried all of the solutions on AM Installation. It still won't work. I tried switching the plugs around, and different sockets. No change. ARGH.

Ask whoever sold them to you. If they can't fix it, then send them back.

Have you had someone step on the brakes as you watch?

I notice that our 2008 and others I see on the road have only outer two segments lit with tail lamps on ...
... but all three light brighter with brakes and center light.

Incorrect.

I know everyone has their own taste but I have to give honest feedback. Send those things back and put back the originals. Aftermarket TL's do not go well on a Mustang. Those do not look good.

Thumbs up

You know, I was outside on the carport just a few minutes ago pulling the cover off to drive it today and as I was at the rear pulling the cover up past the tail lights .... it hit me like a "bolt (like lightening) from above" .... .... "Oh crap, I think I maybe screwed up a post" .... and so I came to check and correct it if I did ....

I don't know how I got it backwards so easily last night, perhaps I was just tired? .... you are so right .... as is "cdynaco" ..... and as I knew.

And I also think the factory lighting looks much better than any of the aftermarket LED stuff I've seen. I looked at the same sort of lighting for my 2007 FX4 F-side and quickly came to that same conclusion, nothing I've seen since has changed. They look especially "bad" (like cheap) when one or more LEDs are out. Besides, some if not all of the A-M stuff lacks DOT or SAE approval and has been known to fail one in inspection.

Incorrect. lol

You and tbear are talking the 08 S197 right? I assume its the same for 05-09, but I know for fact that on the 08:
All three lights in each taillight are on as taillights,
and all three lights in each taillight are on as brakelights+the third brakelight in the trunk lid.
Same for emergency lights, all three lights in each taillight are flashing.

No, he had it right. Tail lights are all three. Brakes are outer two.

I actually went out and checked my 08 Bullitt in the garage with a board wedged on the brake pedal against the seat. All 3 brakelights are lit.

I can't find any occurrence where all 3 light up on a stock configuration.

Return led tail lights put stock lenses back on and order sequential tail light kit from Silverhorse racing. Tell them you want the option of all three bulbs lighting up when you hit the brakes with no sequence. I have them on my 07 gt and they look great and performs flawlessly.

I like the quick sequence on braking with all 3 with my WebElectric ones.
I think it draws attention more.
IMO, Whinnie looks good with the LEDs, but only because of her color.
I would not put them on my car no matter how they light up.

06's are def just the outter 2 for brakes, maybe Ford did change it? I know ppl were going out and rewiring OR the sequential kits use all 3.

Edit: wait, I am saying the 2 outters get brighter for brake lights, that third inner does not go dark its just doesnt brighten.

Plain blinker or locking with keyfob (no lights on) it'll just flash outters as well.

Key Fob lock:

Initially I screwed up and posted it backwards, an error committed when tired and one which I have corrected.
I don't know about all 05-09s, but my 2008 GT has all three on a tail lights, only outer two as brake or signal.
I suspect it would be easy to add the inner 3rd though.

OK, I'll man up and fess up.

Until reading Karman's post, I forgot I installed WebElectric Sequentials like a week after I got #901. I completely forgot.

So I have no idea what stock looks like. doi

Sorry guys...

Haha. I thought that might've been the reason.
