Hood Pins Question?

I have been debating on adding hood pins to my car and was thinking that this is really just a cosmetic mod. I don't believe that my stock hood is going to fly off anytime soon so really hood pins have no real purpose unless you have an aftermarket fiberglass hood.

So am I a real dork for putting fake hood pins on my car? or should I buy the FRPP pins and drill holes in my hood.

The new Shelby GT and Hertz have pins and I was wondering if that was a fiberglass hood and that's why they pinned it or were they just going for the retro look like me?

Get the real ones. I don't know about you, but before hood pins at 85Mph or higher, my hood would shake violently. There were a number of times that I caught a gust of wind and thought for sure it was coming off. The FR500 car blew a hood off the first race with 4 hood pins installed, there is a record of one stock gt with the hood blowing off on this site, and 2 other instances on this site where the safety catch prevented the hood from blowing off.

$40 to save a hood, cheap insurance. Fake hood pins, yeah, um, not so much.

Agreed, get the real thing. The light aluminum hood does shake quite a bit above 85 MPH. I haven't done it yet. I'd like to get the twist off pins like on the mustangs from the late 60s and early 70s but I have not found a reasonable set. There's a guy on ebay selling them for over $200 but I think that is way out of control

ok first off as one of the people that did this mod BUY OTHER PINS WITH THE FRPP...i bought just the ford racing and AFTER ford drilled the holes they found out the posts were too short so go to pepboys and buy their pins for $12 then bore out the hole if you want to use the ford racing pins....also heat the cables on the pins or else they will not give you the GT-H effect

Actually, Fang charges $250 for the real pins. Just go to an restoration parts supplier for OEM parts on the old Mustangs and they will be less expensive and better quality.

Call Steeda....they can explain the 2 types of pins they have, one like on the GTH and the other a sort of modern update.

There used to be threads around on how to install and pictures of location. If someone could link me to those threads I would appreciate it! I ordered the FRPP pins from Jeg's last night and they are on the way.
