I have an 07 GT and have been messing with the hood since I got it trying to get rid of hood shake at highway speeds or on windy days and have decided to install hood pins. However, I'm not sure which ones I'd like. I'm between the Shelby Non Logo Billit hood pin kit with lanyards or the Cervini's Twist Locks. Opinions are welcome. I have the factory hood with factory scoop in vista blue with roush front fascia and agent 47 upper grille.

Don't do the Shelbys. I put those same pins on my 2006 Mustang GT and, in my opinion, they looked real clunky. Not what I was expecting. Only mod on that car I did not like. The twist locks look interesting.

 

I have the UPR hood pins which are similar to the shelby ones and IMO, they look really good

I have the WMS stealth pins. I love em, no need to drill through the hood. Will get some pics up when I get my camera back.

 

I like the twist locks available from Cervinis. I don't have them, but I think it's a clean design.

 

Don't forget the Sparco option as well - it's what Ford Racing uses on all the race cars, we've used them for almost 20 years on our own cars, and they are a easy to use design.

 

For those of you with hood pins, what did you pay to have them installed. I bought the Sparco kind and was quoted...$500 for the install. Seriously. So what's the going rate in your part of the world.

 

500.00 was a quote saying basically he didn't want to be bothered with the job and to take it elsewhere. I used to quote jobs in the stratosphere that I didn't want to take on, so if someone bit at it anyway, at least I didn't get all mad about having to do it.

The work you see above though on our car took me 5 hours to do correctly. Between not drilling ANY holes in the core support, feeding everything into position, trimming the lengths, driling the holes, using a dremel to clean up the bottoms, etc... it did take some time. Still though, for 500.00 I'd be tempted to fly out and do it for you!

A more realistic quote for a clean install would be in the 100-200 range depending on where you live and what the going shop rates are there. While the job is simple enough that anyone can do it, the trick is getting right on the first try, otherwise you've made a real mess of things...

 

We're not going fast enough to need them. But when we do, I like the latch type that are flush with the body. Maybe even match them up with the hood color, so you couldn't see them

 

I really resisted doing hood pins on my '07 GT as I've gone for the sleeper look, but the hood flutter at the track was bothering me, so I installed the non-logo Shelby billett hood pins. Very nice quality (much better than rust-prone Mr Gasket pins I've used on other cars over the past 25 years). Only took about an hour to do it right, but I've installed them before on many other cars I've owned.

 

Of all the mods I did this one took the longest and mainly because doing the holes took a while, you're going through the steel reinforcement in the hood so to get the angle right and what not takes a bit. I did my own Shaker install and compared to the hood pins it was a walk in the park.

That being said $500 seems excessive, $200-250 tops.

 

Hmm, the Shelby ones are nice looking, but there is just something appealing about the Sparco ones. Not to mention the cost save. Plus, if you are looking for subtle, it might be interesting to see of the Blue Anodized from SHR matches up well with the Vista of your car.

 

I took off the flat hood pins and replace them with the Shelby pins. They are much better.

 

Bruce, what is it that you prefer with the Shelby's?

 

I have had the Ford Racing hood pins on my car for about 3 years. I have had no problems and the install was very easy.

I'm going with a set of these as soon as I get my motor back in the car.

 

I think I'd like too I just can't bare to drill a hole in the hood ! humm so I wonder then the car's factory cable still in place as well as these locks ? Bonus !

 

Yes, the factory hood release opens the hood like factory. You will feel more resistance, but it works perfect. The directions are crappy, but not hard to figure out. Longest part is adjusting the pins, they thread into the hood base. I will get some pics up tomorrow.
