Fellas, if I was venturing in the Fiberglass world, and I wanted to do something like CDC did for the SEMA show cars, where would I find a headlamp assembly like the one they've used? Any ideas, guesses, anything, is welcomed, please post your .02s.

I don't care if the lamp has the turn signal bulb in it or not, so with that said... let's let it roll! Post, post, POST!

From talking with CDC, when they made that headlight they just took the factory headlight bucket and took out the glass and painted the inside. They then used a sealed Jaguar headlight for the actual light itself. I liked it so I had my buckets painted. I think it looks much better and is a very subtle but cool mod. Good luck on attempting to replicate the CDC one. Would like to see how it turns out.

Well, I've been looking, and I can't find a Jaguar that would have that kind of headlamp... any idea of model/year? Anybody familiar with Jaguars?

If you figure it out let me know because I've been wanting to do exactly what CDC did.

The bulbs are out of the XJ series sedan. I had a 99(first 'Ford' year), and they looked identical to that one. Not sure of the newest design(they don't change much) uses the same bulb, but I imagine the non-hid version is the same.

its not a stock bucket, the stock bucket only has two vents not three like the cdc and the cdc headlamp opening is much smaller than the stock one on our cars, thus the jag headlamp might not work, Ive been looking into jag headlights as well but havent found anything that works, I know Matrixx (or however you spell it) makes round aftermarket lamps about the same size, diamond cut, I just think they look bad.

I'm looking for pictures, to see if the headlamp looks the same...
From what was said, CDC used the stock bucket, all they did was a little more fiberglass work (which is what's gonna take to put a jaguar lamp in there)

Do you think these are it? I don't see the lamp split in the middle like the CDC one...

Any help... anyone?

Anyways, I found a painted bucket picture, and yes, rrobello is right... look at the differences between pic in post #1 and this one

[attachmentid=45786]

The buckets are different... in any case, who knows year and model of the jag headlamp? is it the 99 XJ or another year? I can't clearly tell from pictures...

And also, is it the driving lights (outter pair) or the secondary driving lights (inner pair)??

C'mon guys, if this is not hard to do, it would be a cool mod for us to do, but with no opinions or help, it makes it that much more difficult.

Hi, I also wanna do this mod. Thinking of the Xenon lamps of Saleen. They are around USD 900.00. The paintjob is quite cheap.

Well, some of us don't wanna spend close to 1,000 for the look, I think that's the whole point of this particular thread...

Well, here in Europe its also about safety, 'cause the OEM lamps suck big time. You don't see anything in comparison to the other cars here...

Let me know if you find something cheaper...

BTW was not clear that you are looking for the cheapest material in town...

Well, my idea is to take an OEM lamp bucket, take the clear cover out, buy an enclosed lamp, attach it to the OEM lamp bucket (painted the color of the body), and buying a 6000K HID kit. It should not only be a unique look, but hundreds less than Saleen, especially 'cause I know people that can work fiberglass and paint the parts for free.99

My suggestion would be to get a spare hdlamp, disassemble it, measure the opening and then get a major hd lite suppliers catalog with sizing specs and have at it.

Bare in mind that the head lamp would need to be aimed in some way since the bucket is mounted firm.

or use a projector lite

Thanks Glen.
I know the opening is 6", but I thought you could adjust the bucket from inside the engine bay, can you not? I'd have to go back and see, maybe is just the ligth bulb that moves up and down?

It's just the light. The bucket hard mounts to the vehicle. One bolt on top and two below, behind the fascia.

Also, the stock bucket is flat along the top, not round like a light.

yeah, I did notice that, but I figured that if I can stay right at 6" or a little smaller, that shouldn't be an issue... I got an e-mail from CDC yesterday, they said they molded out of clay first, then did the fiberglass piece, then used a Jaguar 5" 5/8s headlamp (they didn't tell me year or model), but they mentioned that is not street legal, no high beams.
In any case, I have some headlamps I saw yesterday, they are 6" though... I'll see what I can do with this, little by little.
