GT/CS rear bumper, hardware question
GT/CS rear bumper, hardware question
I gave my car a quick rinse this morning and noticed the rear bumper seemed loose in the center, directly in center under the car is a mount. What is that piece supposed to be holding it? Mine looks like one of those pop rivet things used on the front wheel well liners, but it was set to "lock" yet very loose. Yes I know those things break all the time, but wondering is that the correct replacement or was something else supposed to be there?
I just had a GT 500 bumper put on my stang so i got to see everything before it went on. The GT/CS (GT 500) rear bumper uses three push pin connectors to hold the bottom of the bumper cover in place. The center push pin is generally pretty loose, but shouldn't fall out. It's a super bad design for the middle bumper hold.
Thanks to the body shop when they couldn't find the hole to attach the center tab to, they cut it off. Nice huh? So I added two tabs of my own made out of shaved down plastic spackle knives, 3M tape, and two existing bolts. I know.. sounds like it belongs on thereifixedit.com but it's now more sturdy than the original bumper. The 3M tape is used to attach the tabs inside the flat part of two of the diffusers.
