I'd like to get a set of 16x9s and 16x10s with some meaty tires. I'm assuming they'll be beneficial from a dig, and will also make the ride quality a little cushier. I can't say what effect this setup would have on the handling, since I would be adding tire-roll but also more tire to bite. Any opinions on the performance? I'll leave the "looks" department to myself: I like the looks of the wheels and tires on cars like the shelby 427 cobra, porsche 930 turbo, and such and I think most of them come with fat 16s in a deep dish fitment.

The Mustang is alot larger then the two examples you gave. The tire profile would be higher to fill the wheel wells on the Stang. You'll hook up better for sure, and alot better if you use Drag Radials. You'll be looking for a 285/60R16 or in that neighbor hood for the rears. You pretty much said it that handling with be undesirable. As far as the looks department, I'll take a pass, big bulgy tires don't suit the new stang any more then it would an SN95.

The ride would be softer, and the handling would be less responsive. I assume you're looking to use this setup everyday?
