I chose a different location for the hood pins and it apparently coincides with that of the inner 2 pins out of the 4 installed on the hood of the Mustang FR500 cars competing in the Grand Am Cup. The stock hood already has indentations on the underside, right above the holes I had chosen.
The instalation was easy but it took a while because I had to drill carefully and constantly adjust the size of the holes. The plates are fastened in place with rivets, instead of the screws provided with the kit. I also chose not to install the lanyards because they are ugly and were likely to scratch the paint.
Sorry for the car being dirty, but I ran out of time today. I just received in the mail a whole bunch of Meguiars products which I intend to use tomorrow. More pics in the sun will follow tomorrow.

Here are some pics of the MGW stuff. I neved posted them before.
Everything is in Satin Silver finish, which IMO is the best match for the brushed aluminium dash panels.

Yeah I think you did a great job - they are just a little too close together for my taste....

Your MGW stuff looks sweet!

Here are the pics in daylight, as promised.
I used Meguiar's for the first time today and I must say I'm impressed! First I put on a layer of ScratchX, then 2 layers of NXT wax. Then I drove the car 5 miles to the marina, that's why it's no longer clean in the pics. :bang:
Gotta love black, for the entire 5 minutes it stays clean!

Next: painting the calipers black. Or red?

Not too bad. I think it would take some getting used to. As long as you are happy with it that's what matters.

Since I am not immediately taken by it I have to say :notnice: This may be one of those changes that look better in person than a picture but it looks too close for my tastes (again, my tastes). It almost looks like a set of nostrils. Good try but still :notnice: :notnice:

Thanks for the input, everybody!
Personally I like them (that's why I chose to install them like this) and I'm curious as to how the hood scoop will complete (or destroy) the look of the hood. I will test fit it once it arrives and if I don't like the look, I won't install it.
Now, here's a question to all those who installed hood pins (regardless of the location): what did you do to waterproof the holes in the hood? I'm a little worried that water will go in between the 2 sheets of metal of the hood and get stuck in the front end of the hood, since there are no drain holes there. Any ideas?

I took a bike tube and cut a whole smaller than the size of the pin in the middle and the size of the outside washer to go under the top washer. Worked great and if you mess up the first one you have a whole tube to work with.

I don't like the location, but to each his own. Also, I love the lanyards, and they should not scratch your paint, because they should come coated with vinyl, although I can understand worrying about scratching the paint.

Well, everyone say's I'm a Tad Different too. But I LIKE Them. Balances the whole nose theme. As far as the scoop goes, you might be better with a narrow one, like the Roush, versus the wider Xenon types that are out there. As far as the lanyards, should not and would not are a lot different. I'm leaving mine off too.

Update on performance of the pins:

Today I was driving back home from Germany, the Autobahn was almost empty, so I gave it a go. Even at 145 mph there wasn't the slightest shaking of the hood anymore. Prior to installing them I was recluctant to go above 100 mph for fear of the hood taking off.
