Thumbs down

Its funny that:

1. I was talking about the my last ticket just 2 days ago on TMS...
2. My friend came over last night and said HE got a ticket

NOW I GOT ANOTHER ONE!!! :bang: :bang:

I was going down my hill from home, and a female officer (pretty good looking) was coming up. She made a crazy u-turn, flicked the o-so-nasty lights on, and pulled me over.

I got a ticket for not having front plates.

Never heard of getting one JUST for that.

Anyway...guys, I have the Street Scene body kit on my car. There isn't any real area for me to put a license plate on..no screws or holes either. What should I do? Just SCREW it in?

Not to be a jerk but just because you got a kit doesn't make it ok not to have a front license plate... your taking away the target for the laser.

See you are also from Virginia. Don't know about how things are up there but around here, road checks are happening more and more often. A friend in our club got stopped and got a warning (informal) not to have his license plate covered - even if it was clear (not smoked, colored, etc),
Living in alot more urban area, do you really have a choice?

I hate having a front plate on my car. Looks like crap. Do what I do. Take the plate and put in between the windshield and the dashboard on the passenger side. As long as it is visible, you shouldn't get a ticket.

I made the mistake of mounting mine in the stock position. I'm sorry I did now, I should have made a braket or something. My only real concern is with the amount of air it seems to block from the lower radiator opening. Oh well, I'm stuck with it now.

...Yeah it sucks...i wound up putting mine on...don't want the hassle or a "reason" to get pulled over! You will get used to it on there...not that bad!

Front plates are required in California. I put them on the Mustang because I didn't want the police to have any reason to stop me and snoop around my car....

Yeah, that looks better.

I'm pretty sure that's not legal in most states although I do recognize it's a relatively common thing people do. But how is a cop passing you going the other way, as happened to Ghost up there, going to see your plate laying down over on the dashboard as she passes?

When you (or other people who do this - I really don't mean to attack you personally or anything) park, do you leave the plate in your window? If so, that looks kinda weird and tacky, IMHO. If not, you might get a ticket anyway, kindly left in your wiper, since its not a moving violation or anything.

I agree that the Mustang looks better without a front plate; that said, most states require a front plate, and its just a fact of life. I knew I was going to have a front plate regardless, so I sucked it up, drilled the holes, found a very tasteful (plain, chrome) plate frame and screwed it on. I think it looks fine, really, and even found a plate frame that subtly blends with the lines of the car because a ridge sort of comes up on the bottom, like the bottom teeth of the "shark" nose bumper. I also don't worry about it blocking air - it's only a small obstruction to a large grill, and I've never noticed a difference (from when I only had the back temporary plate).

Others, like Werked, have come up with creative solutions, like a bracket (I've seen Louis/Werked's bracket - it's very well-done ).

The SSE body may be more difficult to adapt, but I'd either drill and attach the plate (in a frame, of course), or maybe even see if you can get a good area to use 3m tape - I've read of people having success attaching plates with it on these boards.

Sorry for the rant. Here's the best picture I have of my front plate - I really don't think it looks so bad. *but note that the innocuous colors of the NY plate help; obnoxious plates like Kentucky's stand out much more and clash far worse.

I put my front plate on same as Rich, so I don't give them a reason to pull me over and maybe find other things to write up. The California colors don't look bad and I installed a color matching frame.

I got one ticket for that and decided that was enough. Especially with the gas prices these days. My advise, somehow get it on.

That is a myth. The radar does not home in on the license plate. Several of my friends are police officers. The radar detects the entire car, not the front plate.

only $15.00????? Here it is $104.00

Anyway, moving this to Exterior mods since you want to know of a different way to mount the plate. This really has nothing to do with technical or performance.

Jersey requires a front plate also. I can't say I really mind it there so much. I got a frame that I liked, put it on and called it a day.

Now the item I won't put on my girl, that continues to bug the carp out of my husband is the velcro tape for the ez pass. I just don't like the way that looks at all! So whenever we travel the parkway or turnpike I become the holder........come up to the toll, hold the ez pass up to the windshield, pay the toll and away we go! No need for the velcro permanantly stuck to her windshield!

I do the same thing... hate the way the EZ pass looks stuck in the windshield. Plus it has been known to happen in the city that people break into a car to steal an EZ pass. Holding it up is no big deal...

True for radar, but laser is usually aimed at a flat, reflective surface; on the front of the car, the best (in many cases only) place for this is the plate.

I have always lived somewhere where a front plate is required. I get frustrated cause I dont see any point to it. Im in Fairfax county most of the time so police will stop you for anything here. Best to just suck it up.

Cathy Jersey offers an EZ pass that mounts to your front plate now.Its about 6 inches wide and mounts to your existing plat screws.
