Yesterday I ordered the drilled in hood pins from my dealer. I asked him if they were compatable with the 2005 and he thought they would be. Today I called Ford Racing tech line and the tech that on hand said that they hadn't tried to put them on the 2005 so they weren't sure if they would fit. Any body here know the answer? The hood pins were from Ford racing. Sorry I didn't make that clear early on in the post.

I looked into the ones at CDC, but my concerns were about how the adhesive would affect the paint. Most people would be cncerned with the holes in their hood but my cousin does body work and he's pretty good. But my problem is I don't have the car yet so I can't do the measurements.

I also ordered the FRP hood pins, and they will fit. The problem I had is that they only will fit towards the outside of the hood where someone on another site had already installed and Vegasjay probably also installed (correct me if I'm wrong). I wanted mine more towards the middle... right around the ends of the grill like how they were on the old Shelby's (see pic below). So, I had to actually weld my pins in place because they would have been too short to bolt there because of the curve of the hood. I think they look great and so that is another option for those of you who want to stay more authentic. I will post pics within the next couple days. I'm waiting to get my stripes put on tomorrow before taking another round of pics.

Here is a pic of my Mustang after installing the Ford Racing hood pins. But if you want them installed in this location, they will need to be welded.

My hood pins are in the exact same spot. There aprx. a 1/2" away on each side of the flat plastic radiator shroud, on the crossmember that the rubber hood stops are on. I didn't weld them on I used a 1/2"x 1" bolt w/ the same thread size as the FRP post. I put the bolt (1/2"x1") through the bottom of the crossmember in the hole I drilled then used a tall (regular) 1/2" nut. There was enough threads left in the nut to screw the FRP post into. I double nuted it and used red lock tight, solid as a rock! Just an alternative to welding them in.

So after you drilled holes in the hood (poor thing), what did you put on the metal to prevent it from rusting?

For now, I just put some of the factory touch-up paint that Ford sent me around the holes I cut in the hood... eventually I plan to put a hood scoop on my hood (I have a reproduction of a'65-'66 Shelby hood scoop in my shed) and mold it into the hood and have the entire hood repainted... with the Shelby stripes of course. That will hopefully be withing the next few months. Incase I don't though... have any ideas, adrenalin?

not really. Just sort of along the same line as what you did. I would just put on primer and then matching paint.

You must have been nervous drilling those holes.....that would stink if they were off a bit. How did you figure out exactly where to drill? Did the posts leave a little indent when you lowered the hood to know where to drill?

I think it looks great. Originally I didn't want to install any but now I like me.....but I am still contemplating replacing the hood so I just don't know what to do yet.

I actually took a laser pointer, attached it to the ceiling of my carport and shined it down on the pin once attached to the car... then closed the hood and the laser dot was on the hood. I wanted to make sure I didn't drill up at an angle. And I was nervous too... but I'm trying to make my car look as retro as I can... like a late 60's Shelby. So, hood pins were a must.
