Ford Blue Oval emblem?
Ford Blue Oval emblem?
I know everyone has their own opinion about emblems, but don't you think a Mustang should have a Ford blue oval emblem somewhere on the exterior? A small one on the rear somewhere?

I support the Blue Oval emblem not only on Mustangs but on every Ford product. To no surprise, many who will oppose a single Blue Oval emblem will celebrate and endorse the 20+ Shelby emblems as cosmetic ingenuity.

The Mustang doesn't need blue oval emblems, as the Mustang is instantly recognized as a Ford to begin with. However for those who feel the need at looking upon blue oval emblems, they're included on the factory/stock wheel caps.
I don't care for a blue oval on any new Mustang simply because the originals classics did not feature any. For me cars like the Mustang and Thunderbird were more special because they had their own mascots for emblems and did not need to be reinforced with a blue oval emblem. The blue oval also had no place on the exterior of the last Thunderbird.
I guess they don't bother me on the decklid of the 1983-04 Mustang. It was not until 1983 when the blue oval made it's debut on the Mustang right smack in the center of the grille where the pony should have been. Previous year Mustangs from 1979-82 had a circular red, white and blue pony on the hood except for 1979 pace cars replicas and 1980-81 Cobra models with the pace car style hood scoop. 1982 GT's used a black round emblem with a pony instead of red, white and blue.
The whole blue oval thing came about since Ford cars built in Australia and Europe started using the blue oval on the center of the grille and on the rear deck since about the mid 1970's... By 1989 every Ford except the Thunderbird had a blue oval center grille/front end emblem. The Thunderbird did get a blue oval on the decklid in 1989.
Thankfully I got the Pony Package with tri-bar emblems and I did not have to put up with or change the blue oval emblem center caps that come standard on GT's and V6's...
The blue oval emblems works fine on cars that do not already have their own model emblem or mascot. However, it would have been more interesting if Ford developed a bull for the Taurus...
Of course it would have been funny if Ford had developed a magnifying glass as an emblem for the Focus...
They should have kept the Escort name and created a prostitute mascot....
Well, the Fusion and Edge have their grilles as their mascots... As they look like giant Gillette razors!

I've never been a fan of the blue oval emblem on any car or truck. The emblem looks pretty antiquated compared to most other brands and to me, reminds me of tempos, pintos, station wagons and trucks. Doesn't exactly evoke positive emotion for me. I wish Ford would upgrade their emblem although I know they won't, it has "brand recognition". Chevys bow tie looks out of place on modern cars too. I don't know why they can't/don't simplify their emblems to make them instantly recognizable but not so ugly. Honda, acura, toyota, mercedes, bmw, volkswagen, even hundai all have a simple attractive emblem's that don't detract like a blue oval or the golden bow tie.
I know everyone has their own opinion, and many like the emblem but had ford included a blue oval on my mustang, my first "mod" would be removing it.

I'm with the "It doesn't really need a Blue Oval" crowd. If you're dead set on having one where it can be seen, a small one on one side of the trunk lid would be the most. Or, as was said, if you've got the stock Blue Oval center caps on the wheels, you're set already.
When we were originally looking at Ford's new S197 prototype, during a new car show back in 2003. Thought was that a small blue oval would really look better than that faux gas cap. But when we got our own CalStang, with the sharp California Special badging on our cap. It finally won us over to Ford's design thinking! IMHO: Love the old Ford script lettering in the blue oval. As it says Ford Brand History and and American Name!! Silly, but the site of those big, tall Blue Oval Ford dealership signs from the interstate while traveling in the Stang, always puts a big smile on my face. And the thought is. That its nice to know they are out there all over our America, if we ever need them for anything at all!! CalStang

I think the Faux gas cap on the GT should have the running pony in the center from the V-6, and "GT" where it says "FORD". "Powered by Ford" would look awesome in the engine bay somewhere though.
To me, only someone from Mars or Inner Mongolia would have to ask "Who makes the Mustang ... T-Bird ... Camero or Corvette? Certain cars are their own "brand", and trancend the makers label.
