Do you lose visibility with center fogs ?

Guys,

I'm contemplating a center fog grille. By moving the lights in, do you lose coverage? I'd hate to buy and install this and find out my fogs were useless.

Boy, I don't know about this one. I have the center fogs now. I never run both at same time. I have HID's and love the color and they work great. I run one set or the other, never both, I don't like the yellowish light from fogs. I run fogs as driving lights in daytime on highway, and just use HID's at night.

I had the center grille on for a while and I would say it's about the same as the OEM grille. I have the Shelby CS6 grille with the small PIAA lights and while I like the look , they don't give nearly as much light on the road as the other two ...

You don't lose visibility. After all, fog lights just project a wide band of light, not much in the way of distance coverage like headlights. You won't notice a difference unless you are driving in fog as thick as pea soup. Then you would see a bright light directly in front of the car from the fog lights, or is that a train? Anyway, fog lights are just for looks as far as I am concerned.

I installed my center fog lights at 300 miles on my car and I have 1500 miles now and they work great. I couldn't tell any difference.

Hey Walt, this I can answer for ya. I feel that I actually have better visibility directly in front of me, since the fog lamps are centered now.

You know, if your ever around during a cruise night, I can take you for a spin in my car and you can see 1st hand how the visibility is. If your not doing anything this Saturday, I'll be at the Lowe's in Warrington on 611 for the monthly cruise night. Starts at 5, and goes to dark. I'll be there around 5:30 or so. if your around, come on over for a few.

Sounds like a plan. Are you showing or looking?

I didn't notice any difference. I did notice that I don't get flashed anymore. People must understand with the lights in the center that they're not high beams.

with the center fogs has anyone with HID's tried switching to a different bulb to match the headlights? maybe silverstars and tint the bulb a tad bit. id like to run all lights but it looks wierd with the yellow in the center.

Well, that's one good thing. I'm tired of being flashed.

Hey Walt, just logged on and saw your reply. I'm always showing AND looking as well (I am a car nut to the 10th degree, lol). At that show, you won't miss my car! I'll have the mod list board out and the hood up. Look forward to finally meeting ya.

I got flashed by oncoming drivers ALOT with the stock GT grill, but once I added the center grill, I thought it would end. I still got the same problem, until I aimed the foglamps down a tad. Now, no problem at all.

Did any of you have trouble with the drivers side bulb not being able to lower as far as it should?

I have the street scene grill and the bulb touches the sheet metal and keeps it up some.

Yes, I had that exact same problem. Used a dremel with a cutoff wheel and cut a notch in the aluminum support bracket and even cleaned it up with a polishing wheel and some touch up paint. Looks like it came that way stock.

But yes, if you don't do this, your driver's light will stick out a little.

I was leaning toward the 3d Carbon piece. Now I'm thinking it's a good idea.

Odd, I did a write up regarding the Street Scene grille. I didn't have any issues with the bulbs touching. I had a KSR grille before that where I had to do major grinding of the crossmember. Then again, I don't have the stock fascia either.

It is very close with the SS. I believe the Carbon comes with modified fog lights to alleviate this problem. I'm not sure what you do when one burns out.

Basically if the fog light was turned 180 degrees, the plug would be on the other side and this wouldn't be a problem.
