I like the Shaker system by Fang with the traditional 69 hood, but if I get a GT and go this route , I don't want to have a "fake" Mach 1 (yeah, yeah I know its my car and I can do what I want; but I want something that makes historical sense too).

I had read on here http://bradbarnett.net/mustangs/timeline/69-70/69/ that

The scoop was standard on the 428 Cobra Jet Ram-Air V-8 and optional for Mach 1 or GT with 351 or 390 engines.
.

I've been trying to find a picture of a 69 GT with a hood scope to no avail, but the guys in the Classic Mustang section found one for me.

So here you go. One of only 58 produced 69 GT convertables with a 428CJ Shaker. Another 257 R- coded (428CJ with shaker) fastbacks/sports roofs were produced that year.

Here is a fastback with a flat black hood (couldn't find a picture of one with a shaker).

Note the GT side stripes in both pictures (not seen on Mach 1s or Bosses)

Why I am I posting this? Because I love that fact that flat black hoods and shakers aren't historically an exclusively Mach 1 thing. The GT had them too in 1969. In fact GTs and Machs were your only choice for this look, as the Boss 302 didn't have a shaker option in 1969.

So here's to GTs with shakers, flat black hoods, hood pins

Yes - back then you were not forced to take option "packages" like today, and a few people mixed things up a bit. Just the engine / transmission combos alone made for some interesting cars.

It certainly left some unusual cars around... I have a buddy with the world's largest collection of Firebirds / Trans Ams (over 60) and one of the T/As has a column shift automatic. Strange to see in a Firebird. He has some other weird combos that are "one of seven made" or something like that too.

Thanks for the post Mark!
I have been having the same problem with the theme of my dream Stang.
Shakers and black hoods rock and thanks to you I realize they are not exclusive to the Boss and Mach I.
