WHATEVER!!!! It is HIS car, he can, and will do as he pleases, the only time ANY of it would matter, would be when and IF its ever SOLD!! Then, its only up to the sellers morals, and the buyers knowledge!!!

For starters I was not trying to instigate nor upset you. I really like what you have done with the car and yeah I have my issues with what you're calling it but at the end of the day like everyone has said It's your car and you do what you want with it. I really hope you do succeed making all the horsepower in the world. If nothing else you'll always have an amazing look car congrats.

That's correct, the only way to get a CS6/CS8 is to build one yourself. Shelby may offer the services to build a CS6/CS8 for customers at their new manufacturing plant in the future but the cars still won't go into the official Shelby Registry. Thats how I interrupted it anyway.

Sorry for being off topic, but I guess you can get an already assembled CS8 now.

Interesting read. I actually have most of these parts in my garage with the final ones on the way. I had asked the same question on the Shelby boards when they said they could assemble CS6's and 8's if they would go into the official registry compared to all the people building their own. Here is the thread. My question was asked in post #6 and answered by Hillbank Motorsports and Amy from Shelby. Going to be interesting to see how this all plays out. I wouldn't be suprised in the least if dealers are building CS6/8's and marking them way up.

http://forum.shelbyautos.com/index.php?showtopic=268

Back on topic, Rene should be able to call his car whatever he wants, it's his car. It's been said over and over, as long as if he ever tried to sell it he didn't try to pass it as a GT500. I thought about doing the GT500 conversion but more along the lines of what 2L8IWON did and made his look "similar" and not a replica but all in all, not my "personal" style.

Angry Mustang history ...... & Project Explaination

People have been buying mustangs for years and performing shelby conversions since they were first introduced. This is nothing new -
American automobiles have been customized (personalized) since
the first Ford rolled off the assembly line. If you look closer to the
rear faux gas cap - its just a Cobra, does not even have the Shelby
GT500 lettering on it. There is a good reason why I did that - I did'nt
want to pass it off as one. My goal was to create a custom build Cobra,
with what I feel Ford should have come out with first - a 400HP Cobra
that regular guys / gals could afford - maybe in the $30 - 35k range.
Most Ford enthusiasts would have been very happy with that combo.
Now these Shelby GT500's are selling well over MSRP, sometimes
10, 20, 30 and even 80k over - Thats just -

I love the looks of the Shelby GT500, but not the price !!!
So I did the next best thing - converted my Mustang GT to what
I call a Cobra (appearance wise) Now am in the process of putting
a plan together for my 1-2 year plan on my engine build. To put the
venoM on this so called Cobra.

So if there are any more guys / gals that want to trash talk about being
a cloner - just have one thing to say --> SEEMS LIKE ITS JEALOUSY
TO ME !!!

Another non GT-500 "Cobra" from 2005
http://www.stangnet.com/Ford-Mustang...ang-Cobra.html

And the spirited thread discussion that accompanied it. http://forums.bradbarnett.net/showth...light=mennella

As you can see, the subject of Cobras on a non-cobra mustangs is a subject of heated and continious debate on here. Just ask April.

Clone is fine, but when you say it's a GT500 or put badges on it, that's where I think your wrong. Why would I be jealous, I could put the front end on too and would love it. But to call it something it's not is not cool. Now when you race someone that does not know Mustangs and you loose to him.. what is he gonna tell his buddy? "Hey man, I just beat a 07 Shelby GT500. HELL YEAH, man they are slow" Now if you did not call it a GT500 or put badges on it, it would be a different story. Right now you can't even come close to backing up the power. So why not put a tri-bar badge on the front and have the look completed? If you want a snake on the front, fork up the money... but don't be a fake

EDIT: so i'll put a simple analogy in here for ya... since I know your still not getting it. It's like putting a Rolex badge on your watch and calling it a Rolex.

Talking Street racing is illegal and besides .....

People buy & make knock offs all the time. Its a way for the poor joe to feel like a million bucks without spending the money.

All you people need to chill for goodness sake. After all you'll know its a knock off / poser or whatever you want to call it. I just liked the way it
looks and after all I know as well its not the real deal. So you all have
to relax and not take this sooo seriously. Like I said people have been
customizing, modifying and personalizing their cars since the first Model
Ford rolled off the assembly line - Its the American Way.

I love the looks of the Shelby GT500, but not the price !!!

Four months ago, I put into action a plan. I sold my '03 Cobra with hopes of buying an '07 GT500 USED (in one or two years). I will NEVER pay over MSRP for ANY car and this one, I believe, has set some records for most over MSRP. I sold my Cobra to cut my car expenses to increase my chances of buying an '07 sooner (than later), but still used.

So I did the next best thing - converted my Mustang GT....

Enter my '05 GT in October. I originally had no plans on modding it -- oh, my '03 Cobra was completely stock. Hard to believe but I never modded it either. Then one night, I'm on the internet and I find this site. I then found Kevin and the "conversion" parts he sells. With pics of others who's converted their cars, I could no longer hold back. Instead of waiting for an original, I decided I wanted the "look" now! Darn you Kevin!

.... Clone is fine, but when you say it's a GT500 or put badges on it, that's where I think your wrong....

I was NOT going to put any of the emblems at first. I wanted the "look" but didn't want to falsify its identity. Then one night, I'm watching a re-run of the 2006 Barrett-Jackson auction and see several "clones". To name a few, a "non-original" '69 Z28. Or how about a 1970 Hemi Challenger "Re-creation" (an original 440 4-barrel car). I also recall a '69 Yenko Camaro (not an original Yenko). Not only were these cars being sold for way over the accepted values if they were not cloned, but it seemed to me that they were "accepted" by the general public as a way to afford a car that most could not afford..... like it's been stated, as long as the owner discloses the truth, there seems to be nothing morally or ethically wrong with creating a "re-creation" or a "tribute" car. This is when I decided to put the emblems on. But on my car, I have something unique from every angle that sets mine apart from a true "reproduction".....

All my family and friends know what my car truly is and that's all that matters. For everyone else who sees me driving down the road, who cares if they know or not!!! In fact, it's pretty cool to get the from strangers... And when it comes time to sell my GT, I would never pass it on as anything other than what it is and I will produce my build sheet as proof.

Today, I do not refer to my car as a "Shelby" or a "GT500" or even a "GT". I refer to it as a 2005 Mustang.... And to the car crazy nut that I meet in person, I refer to it as a 2005 Mustang with a Shelby appearance "package" with more power than a stock GT500.

Now when you race someone that does not know Mustangs and you loose to him.. what is he gonna tell his buddy? "Hey man, I just beat a 07 Shelby GT500. HELL YEAH, man they are slow"

First off, I don't street race and I have no plans on running at the track even though I'm putting down more power than a stock (or near stock) GT500. But for argument's sake, I do believe that if you're trying to pass off a car as something it's not, it better be able to perform as well or better than the genuine product...

People buy & make knock offs all the time. Its a way for the poor joe to feel like a million bucks without spending the money.

The proof of this is as close as your TV. Like I stated already, just watch Barrett-Jackson. This year, I plan on attending!

....Like I said people have been customizing, modifying and personalizing their cars since the first Model Ford rolled off the assembly line - Its the American Way.

Righto! Rene, I'm with you all the way. I'm planning on installing the over-the-top striping too but I need to get exact dimensions off an original GT500 first. I understand the widths are different from panel to panel and I want to reproduce it as closely as possible. Oops, I meant "clone" the striping!!!

The Mustang looks great! Even I used the same deck lid badge on my 07'GT. There so many taking the S-197 and going old school, paying tribute or personalizing. Its great to see someone take something new and make it newer. You really shouldn't have to make your point, the car sells itself. You did it,you live with it.Its a positive move for you, your atitude and your self esteem.

You have every right to do with your car what you please...it is your car and your time and money.

I can understand wanting to be proud of owning something that is rare and limited, but some members of the "Shelby Police" - I have generally found to be...too crass.

It is almost funny to watch them spring into action whenever a Mustang they haven't seen before shows up at a meet. Then it becomes sad, because it seems they have nothing better to do than to carve up someone's sled. Sometimes I sense that the arrogance that comes with the big money certain people have in their "authentic" car blinds them and makes them forget that someone might just be enjoying making a car of their own. I used to see this behavior all the time - now I just avoid those type of events. I have grown tired of watching the militant arm of the "Shelby Police" derive way too much enjoyment from publicly lashing people with their vitriol. I suppose they feel the need to protect themselves from perceived threats to their 'investments'. Whatever.

Look, as enthusiasts who cruise these forums - we generally know what is up, and we can almost always tell the difference between "real" and, to put it kindly, a "tribute". If you can't, then I guess it is your problem. If someone pays Shelby money for a non-Shelby - well, too bad. As with everything else...buyer beware.

While I prefer to keep my opinions to myself - I felt compelled to throw in my 2 cents on this one.

Hey, why would Shelby market Shelby-branded parts unless they wanted people to buy them and use them? I see that a portion of their business strategy appears to be geared towards selling Shelby-branded parts to non-Shelby owners. I guess the "Shelby Police" should be upset with Mr. Shelby himself for using his own name. Maybe they are. Perhaps they will be at Barrett-Jackson frisking him and trying to determine if he is the "real" Carroll Shelby?

Everyone can win here - just be happy with your ability to build/own what you want and be glad that there are suppliers (like Shelby, Ford SVT, etc.) willing to sell us the implements to do so - whether is be a whole car or piece by piece.

What would have happened if the "AC Police" stopped Mr. Shelby from stuffing a Ford V8 into one of "their" roadsters? Just a thought.
