I've had this done for a while but never showed you guys. It's been a boring day today, I washed and Zainoed the heck out of the car yesterday for the car show I was going to enter it in today, but can't because I find out after business hours on a Friday night that my insurance got mistakenly cancelled. I'm depressed.

Anyway here it is. All I did was pull the tip off, cut 12" off of it, and hammered the ball back on. I touched up the spots I scratched the paint off with some spraypaint.

Looks good Dustin.

I have bought a shorty flexible antenna myself but was wondering if i clipped the original antenna to a total of 1 inch if it would still work. Anyone done this? Does the FM reception still work?

I may have not been clear on what I was trying to say. I would like for the antenna to be a total of 1 inch. Will it still work?

Dustin, did the exact same thing.

Makes the antenna look so much better, rather than this huge whip stick.

You can actually use a rotary tool (dremel) to grind down the tip a bit to put the ball back on...supergluing it, then spray painting it in highgloss black.

And its free

Looks good,

its too bad that Ford didn't get rid of the antenna totally, or as a consolation, put it on the back 1/4 panel, I think it would look better there if the Mustang had to have an antenna

Just went and clipped off about 15" off mine. Wanted it to be about the height of
the top of the car. Soon as paint gets dry, I'll post a pic. Looks sharp. Thanks again
Dustin.

LoL I messed up the paint real bad on the ball stud. I went ahead and stripped
it down and repainted it. Probley if I had stripped it down first it would of come
off easyer.

I bought an 8" antenna from mustangtuning.com. I think it looks good. It was $20. I hated the length of the original antenna. Radio reception remains crystal clear with the short antenna, both AM and FM, at least in the L.A. area.

I accidentally clipped my antenna to about 4" yesterday. I picked up my car a week and a half ago, at the dealer I ordered from in Des Moines, Iowa. First thing I did when I got it home was put a Seahawks Antenna Ball (from Jack in the Box) on it. As I drove the car around there, and on the way home, the antenna would wobble back and forth constantly. I never really thought much about it, other than how obnoxious it was at first. After getting the car home, my girlfriend and I decided the weekend was good for another trip, so she could get a good long ride in the car. We made it an over nighter, round trip another 600 miles (3000 miles on my car in 10 days!). On the way home, the antenna was doing the same thing, wobbling back and forth like always. We cruising at about 70 (traffic and rain slowed us down), and all of a sudden I heard a light thump from the passenger side, and at the same time my girlfriend yelped and laughed a little (she's not a Seahawks fan). I wasn't sure what happened, but in that instant as I looked that way, the first thing I noticed was that the antenna wasn't waving anymore, in fact it was really short! She said she just happened to be looking at it and it just came off, no warning at all. I didn't stop or turn around to get it, figured it'd be useless anyway, and the poor guy was probably run over a few times. The only reception problem I've noticed so far is that when driving through the tunnel on the way to work, I lost signal right away, when usually (at least in my truck) I would get at least a staticy signal all the way through.
I'll probably get the 8", or maybe something just a little longer like 12". Not sure yet. I'd love to get rid of it completely, but then I'd have to fill in that hole, and that would just be too much work right now. Maybe later on.

I'll try to get a pic tonight of my ultra short antenna, and post it here.

Dustin..... how is the best way to get the ball off the tip and make the cut clean as to minimize or eliminate any touching up after the fact? Thanks, Kevin

I cut the antenna first with a dremel. On the short piece I put the closed end of a small sized wrench over the open end. I then put the open end in a vise and whacked the wrench with a hammer against the ball popping it off. Be careful, it will run away from you. Then I just ground the tip down on the antenna ever so slighly so the ball would barely fit over the shaft. Then I wrapped the antenna in a rag and put it in the vise and hit the ball until it was back on pretty tight.

No matter what you're going to nick the paint. Just use some old black spraypaint or model paint to touch it up.
