How does one change out the emblem on the gas caps? I read somewhere this is possible?

IF so, how is it done?

What options are there for us to purchase emblems, choices of emblems?

Let's here from you!!

My gas cap is a plain black plastic one. No emblem on it.

Assuming you're talking about the fake gas-cap on the tailpanel, the only choices so far are the V6 version with the pony emblem (my preference) or the generic GT lettering on the V8 cars. I'd like to see the aftermarket fill in the void with some cool 'caps' of their own!

Oh, and it's only held on with two-sided tape although there are two pegs on the back that go into the tailpanel for centering it.

Steeda has their version. Same as stock, but with their logo. I prefer stock.

Roush also has them for their different "Stage" models (1,2,3) ... I think someone here customized one to have the late 60's GT logo on there as well. If you feel creative enough, you can probably put anything you want there.

Well, it is smooth on the edges, instead of the "dimples" that the stock one has, but size and shape is the same as stock.

I have been thinking about how an old style cap would look. Something like this. [attachmentid=33713]
They sell repoductions at Mustangs Unlimited but don't know if it would work but its a good place to see some of the old style caps.
Another idea would use a decal insert like these Bob White Decals

Those repro caps would be too small for the 05. On the models they were used on, the key hole wasn't integrated into the cap since it wasn't an emblem but the actual gas cap. I'm currently working on a project to make a custom rear emblem/medallion similar to the one in my avatar.

I recall seeing an organization that makes an overlay for the OEM ones. If I can find the link I will post it.

The overlays have the classic pony on one, and there are like two more.

I'm pretty sure someone on TMS has already modified his "cap" to look like that. All I remember is he's one of the guys who has the the more authentic retro theme on his car.

I got a V6 Pony emblem from KC and replaced the GT one. Heat it up with a a hairdryer and then use a thin plastic card and/or fishing line/dental floss to pry it off. Use a little Goo Gone to get the tape residue off and put the new one on. Same process for the fender emblems.
