I used the Duplicolor paint kit on my calipers and painted them red. That was fine for a while, but now I want to change them to black. Has anyone ever changed the color? How difficult was it? I used 3 coats, so I know the paint is super thick. I did not pull the calipers off of the car when I did them originally, I was thinking of pulling them off this time, that way I could use alot of paint thinner and get it off really good. I would also have the advantage of doing an extremely good job with the black.

One problem...I am scared to death of pulling my calipers off of the car. When I was about 12 years old, I helped my grandfather bleed the brakes on one of his old feed trucks. That took about 3-4 years if I remember correctly [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrinjester.gif[/img] . I don't want to have to bleed my brakes, that is just too much work. I'd like to be able to pull off the calipers and remove the brake shoes so I could paint them pretty well, just not disconnect them from the brake lines. Is that even possible? How do I do that?

I'm not really sure why you would remove your old paint. Use a red Scotch-Brite pad (available at any auto-body shop) to scuff them up and they will be ready to lay some more paint down over the red.

I wouldn't pull them off the car.

Mine have been red, black and now blue , all duplicolor . Just clean and paint, your basically just applying more coats of the same product .

So you just put on more paint on top of the old color? Did you prep the surface by roughing it up as suggested before?

the best thing to do is get the surface as clean and grease free as possible, then scuff it with a green scoth-brite pad, clean it again, then paint.

Cleanliness is critical, but you don't have to take the old paint off

Once again, use red Scotch-Brite, then I use a wax/grease remover to get everything clean, then I spray filtered compressed air to get out any particles hiding in crevices.
