So why do they want us to unplug it?
I can't see it through the spoiler when it's lit up, even in the dark

Heat of the bulb? lol If that's a concern, then the ducktail is going to MELT OFF MY CAR in the summer in AZ
I'll definitely be unplugging it if I decide to go to the LED CHMSL light from CDC--but other than that, I can't see any real reason to unplug it.

This brings up a good question... I believe that all states now require that vehicles after 1987 have a 3rd high mounted brake light...How do you get around that?

That's a federal regulation--unless you get a cop who is one heck of an a-hole, you'll never be bothered about it.

As mentioned, that's a federal regulation, not state. Secondly, the regulation states that all cars must come equipped with a 3rd brake light from the manufacturer. There is nothing that says that you can't remove that light, nor do you have to keep any type of 3rd brake light. The manufacturer must give you one. That's all it says.
