CDC Ducktail: Why Do They Want Us To Unplug the Third Brake Light?? *pics*

So why do they want us to unplug it?
I can't see it through the spoiler when it's lit up, even in the dark

Pics of Ducktail:

Maybe just precautionary in case of heat from the light. Thats all I could think of. I unplugged mine since it said too.

Same. Plus when you eventually relocate another light, it's just that little bit less load on the electrical system. Besides, it takes 2 seconds to do.

Heat of the bulb? lol If that's a concern, then the ducktail is going to MELT OFF MY CAR in the summer in AZ

I'll definitely be unplugging it if I decide to go to the LED CHMSL light from CDC--but other than that, I can't see any real reason to unplug it.

This brings up a good question... I believe that all states now require that vehicles after 1987 have a 3rd high mounted brake light...How do you get around that?

I installed a Cadillac style LED strip high in the rear window at the roofline. It looks pretty sweet.
Similar to this: except insie the rear window at the 'blackout' line.

I also modded my taillamps so that all 3 bars light up when I hit the brakes instead of just the outer two.

My sequentials force that to happen also.

That's a federal regulation--unless you get a cop who is one heck of an a-hole, you'll never be bothered about it.

Can you take some pics of the attachment of your light from inside the car? I'm interested in the CDC kit but I don't want it to rip off my tint!

Do you have a picture of yours? I really like the way that wide third brake light looks.

As mentioned, that's a federal regulation, not state. Secondly, the regulation states that all cars must come equipped with a 3rd brake light from the manufacturer. There is nothing that says that you can't remove that light, nor do you have to keep any type of 3rd brake light. The manufacturer must give you one. That's all it says.

Pic as requested...

It would've been up sooner, but I just spent 15 minutes searching through the exterior mods forum trying to find this thread.
