Thumbs up

For those of you who have the CDC ducktail, and have installed it yourself, can you talk about how hard it was, whether is was worth doing yourself, etc...

I can't seem to find any threads where people describe how it was like to install it themselves. Also has anyone installed it without drilling? I know the SS ducktail doesn't require drilling, so I"d think the CDC wouldn't require it either, but then again you never know.

People who had theirs installed by a professional, how much did it cost and did you have to have it drilled?

I wouldn't have paid anyone to do it. To me, it was definately worth doing myself, but that's because I knew I could get it done, and I know that nobody would take the time I took to make sure it was perfect.

My .02 - Drill it on. You'll never regret it. Drilling it on also seems to 'tighten up' the DT, also, have the holes drilled made it easier to line up.
I said once before, I'm not sure how functional they are, they probably provide minimal, if any, downforce. However, NASCAR uses a similar style wing, so it must have some force on it at high speeds. That said, I don't want mine to come loose while doing 90, and neither would the guy behind me.

Do you know where you can buy the 3m tape needed to apply the ducktail to the mustang?

It comes with it. The DT uses both 3m tape and bolts. All supplied.

Chuck, if you're thinking about putting on the DCD DT and not drilling any holes... it might not be possible. If I remember right (maybe Rich or Dave can chime in), some of the bolts come already attached -molded in- to the DT. I think maybe it was just in the quarter extensions, but you'll want to check this first. You could probably remove them, but like I said... FYI.

Arrgh, so I have to find someone to install it for me, or figure out how to drill it myself. Nice. This sux. I wonder how hard it is to figure out the drill points.

They give you a stencil if I'm not mistaken

Did you have it installed? Or did you do it yourself?

Its not too hard to install. Myself and my dad did it in about 2 hours. Drilling the holes isnt that bad really. The stencil helps out alot and the directions have you pre-drill the holes first and then drill the holes with a bigger drill.

Hmm, I'm going to have to buy a drill then. Did you install the 3rd brake light?

Also, do any of you guys have the instructions to install the CDC spoiler? I can't get it on the web site, and I tried emailing and calling CDC for them, and they're slow on responding to my request for the install PDF.

Chuck, look at that link I posted earlier. The directions from CDC are posted there.
Don't take this the wrong way, I don't know you... but if you don't own a drill... you might not want to do this one. I don't know you, so don't take it personal, but if this is your first time I'd recommend you have someone there to help you out.
CDC provides the templates, all the info is in that link I posted. Good luck on your decision.

And hey, if you're going to attempt it... make sure you buy GOOD quality drill bits. They'll keep the bit from 'walking' across your trunk lid. Also, buy a good quality drill... don't skimp on your install tools when you bought such a nice spoiler.

Man, the thought of drill bits "walking" across the trunklid just made me break out in a cold sweat.

For that matter, the thought of drilling on my Mustang body gives me a rash. I guess I am not cut out for that type of mods. . .

Yea, this would be my first time, but I don't see what's so hard about it. I mean, you just ease the drill into it. Light pressure right? I wonder how much it would cost to have someone do it for me. I think I might be nutty trying to do it myself, but then again, it may not be that hard to do.

Am I crazy for wanting to try this? I don't know how I would even go about finding a place that would install it correctly. I'd hate it if the place screwed up. ugh. This is stressing me out, I may forgoe the ducktail if it's too much.
