I have been talking via email with CDC regarding their duckbill spoiler and have found out that they aren't cutting a spot for the 3rd tail light. It will be mounted either below the lip of the upper part of the rear window or on the package tray inside the rear window. IMO that is a huge mistake and I will probably now be looking alot harder at the Street Scenes duckbill.

Darnit, they stole my idea! I just picked out a LED strip that I'm going to mount at the headliner in the rear window. I personally love the ducktail without the lamp, more retro without the hole in it.
IMO

Ditto!

If I can swap the 3rd brake light for an LED strip inside at the top of the rear window, that would look so much cleaner and so much more unique. I was going to tint the rear window, so I'd have to make accomodations for that new light. Any ideas where I can get an LED array for that purpose?

The flat vertical look of the CDC ducktail spoiler is so '67 Shelby, it just too good to pass up.

Wow I actually like it being mounted on the uppper lip of the rearview window. But now I wonder if that will be a separate purchase?

Well... I wanted the CDC version, I but I just ordered my 'vert so their options for dealing with the brake light aren't going to work.

I suppose I will look at the alternatives.

I don't know what the inside of the CDC DT looks like or how close it fits to the curve of the deck lid, but you might be able to cut your own opening in the DT and mount your stock 3rd brake light from the deck lid in the opening. It should only be a couple of inches out from the stock location, at most, so the original wiring should work. If the wire's won't reach, simple job to extend them.
And since your'e hacking on the DT and going to have to have it painted to match, might as well fill in the spot for the for the emblem as well. I really like the CDC DT, but the emblem on the back doesn't cut it IMO :notnice:

Here are a couple of pics of what it could look like

CDC's website says that the spoiler will be available with or without the indent for the pony emblem, but I don't understand not accomodating the third brake light. I like the idea of cutting a hole and extending the wiring, but what if you just cover it up? I know it is a law that the manufacturer must produce the car with the light, but is it actually against the law to cover it up? There was no law for older cars to add one, and we lived without them for many years before someone decided they were necessary for public safety.

If you don't put the emblem back on the hole is still going to show up for the key to open the trunk, right?

I love the look without, but I don't know if I legally have to have one. And with a convertible, I don't have the rear window option. :notnice:

No... the CDC duckTAIL does not cover up the GT badge or keyhole. It runs across the surface above the tail-lights. I does cover up the high-center brake light, however.

As for the high-center, here is the latest I got from Kim at CDC:

"Sean,

There will be an additional package offered for the third brake light. The spoiler will be ready to ship by the 21st of March. If you would like to be added to our pre order list let me know and I will do so. We will keep your information on file and update you as we go along. Any questions please let me know.

Thank you"

I still like the look of the tail without the light better... but I live in California and will draw enough attention from our neighborhood Highway Patrol as it is. I don't want to break the law every time I leave the driveway.

With the Street Scene duck tail you can use the 3rd brake light- it will be available in about 2 weeks. This is the Street Scene Duck tail proto-type

Yeah. That is definately the way to go... if you have a coupe. Mine's a 'vert. I live in San Diego. My back window will be stowed much of the year.

But if I went with a coupe I would be with you - a nice, thin led strip in the rear window and a clean ducktail.

The Street Scene looks good, but I couldn't find a url for them. Also, from your pic, it looks like it has a little more curl that the CDC. I guess part of it is that I know CDC product a little better, too. Since CDC says that they will have both a "third-light" option and a "with or without the emblem" option I guess I am good.

I think both the CDC and Street Scene ducktails are nicer than the Xenon offering. More my taste.

Ducktail/duckbill, easy mistake to make...leaving your caps lock on, unforgivable. :nono:

To the topic: I think CDC has the right idea with regard to the style and shape of the ducktale/tail/bill spoiler and I am sure they, or someone else, will come up with workable solutions for the 3rd brakelite/light issue.
