I am thinking of removing the body side mouldings on my car.

Has anyone else done the same?

Is there any reason why I should reconsider?

I am hoping the dealership can do this for free when I bring the car in to get a scratch fixed up (scratch was there when I took delivery)

If you're talking about the lower rocker mouldings, I imagine it would look like crap if you do. It would be like taking the door casings off of inside doors on a house IMO

Do you mean molding alone center of sides? I thought it only came on fleet orders or if you ordered it as a option (canadian models)...should be easy enough for dealers to remove...

Took mine off, they were (barely) attached with two-sided tape. Once I started peeling, they practically fell off! Just take it slow and easy and you'll be rewarded with a car that looks a million times better! Good luck!

I just went back to you post with pictures and I see the door moulding now......Is that some kind of Canadian law that requires door moulding ?

Why else would they put it on there if they didn't have to?

Yea, I would take it off.

The moldings are an option in Canada. I don't have them on mine. I don't know why though, as they are ugly. I've only seen them on fleet cars, and ones dealers bring in for stock.

Without a doubt take them off. No question. No offense but the look like crap on this car. They completely break up the lines of the car.

The dealers order them because it adds $95 to the sticker price... yeah, $95 for two ugly strips of plastic.

I saw one here (Canada) today with body side mouldings it still had temp plates so hopefully they just haven't got around to taking them off yet but they look terrible.

Well,

I brought the car to the dealer to have some other touch-ups done, but they didnt have time to do the bodyside mouldings.

Can I just take these off myself? Should I be worried about paint coming off?

If you're a little gun-shy, I'll yank them for you. No guarantee on my work though! :j/k:

Maybe they will come off easier if you warm them up with a blow dryer

Tell them to make time...

If you do try it on your own,i read somewhere about how a hairdryer is helpfull for removing stripes...it might help with tape behind moldings too?

Yeah,

I think I will wait for a sunny day, and use a hair dryer on it.

I was going to use a light solvent but I am concerned about the paint so I wont.

Another good tip is using fishing line or a heavy dental floss. Work it in behind the molding on one end and just go towards the other end using a light sawing motion. They come right off. Heating them up helps this process. This also works good for removing badges and emblems as well.

I know the moldings help save on door dings, but they look so ugly. The C5 Vettes had those as an option and every one I saw them on looked like hiney. Most of the owners pulled them off.

What? What post with pictures? I found this thread by searching for bodyside mouldings, but I can't find any freaking pictures! Not that I'm planning on getting them, haha. I just saw the option listed and wanted to know what they look like!
