I am thinking about putting a black out panel on my car and have a few questions from those that have done it.

I am not sure if I really will like it or not so I don't want to spend a lot on something I may not keep on the car.

So who has gone with the vinal ones and how are they holding up. Are they easy to install? Do they scratch easy?

Are there any other reasonably priced alternatives like $30 or under?

check out http://www.mustangblackout.com/. It is magnetic and reasonably priced, $39.99. I know some members on here already have this.

 

Cut out a piece of carboard, paint it black, stick on you car. Stand back far enough that you can't tell exactly what it is.... and see if you like it.

That's a good idea. I will give that a shot.

 

I have the Xenon blackout panel, 3m double sided tape, and I like it (I have the tail light covers too), and it was $40 from autoaccessory4u.com

Good fit...

Hey Rony - is that in flat black or glossy? And the fit around the gasa cap medallion is good??

 

I was thinking the same, that cardboard cutout is a good idea. As always, making exterior mods with WB is kinda hard, like with my grand am (which is all black) I went with the blacked out theme, but it's harder to make classy touches to this color for some reason. At least in my opinion [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/dunno.gif[/img]

You gotta play with it, but I'm satisfied with the fit, and it's glossy (a bit transparent, but is not too too obvious). I like it for $40!!

I went to the local sign shop and spent 5 bucks for mine. This was after paying more for the same thing on e-bay, then screwing up the installation. I did it last year and it's holding up great....looks like new.

That's a great idea. I bought the vinyl ones and the corner ripped while I was installing it. I ordered a second set and it went on without ripping the second time, but it scrathced really easily while installing. I was thinking of getting the magnetic ones or possibly just taking the trunk lid to my local body shop and having it painted.

 

My suggestion is to by the magnetic sign material.
Then buy some vinyl stripe material...any shade you want,
there are dozens of black shades.
I have even seen vinyl carbon fiber.
Then install the vinyl ONTO the sized and pre cut magnetic material.
Now you have the best of both worlds.
Black out panel or NO black out panel ....when ever you want.

check out the Xenon. Some people complained that the fit around the medallion was not good, and I could see how that's a problem, if you don't do it CAREFULLY, but I had no trouble. Follow the link
