Hi guys, its been a while since ive been on here. Im looking into a new set of tires/wheels for my car. Im debating between the BFG KDW 2s and the Nitto 555s. Im looking at 295s out back and 265s up front. Could anyone comment about these two brands. The prices are pretty close btw. Also as far a clearence goes the BFGs are 295/35Z/R18 and 265/35Z/R18. Nittos are 295/45Z/R18 and 265/35 or 40Z/R18. Any clearence issues with this w/o any mods? Also some say i should go 255s in front so im considering that as well. Thanks for any opinions.

I haven't tried the 555's, so I can't comment on those. But we have the BFG's on ours. They're a bit noisy, but they have excellent wet and dry traction on the street. With those and the LCA's, the car rides on rails.

I have the Triple Nickels on my car and couldn't be happier. When I was shopping for tires I had the same comparison. As mentioned the KDWs are louder on the road but the tread is cooler looking. Ultimately I chose the Nittos because of value, previous experiances and lack of road noise.

I was in the same boat as you a few days ago. I was comparing the same two tires and eventually went with the Nittos. IMO, a 295/35 tire didnt seem to fill the wheel-well enough. A 295/45 is a little oversized, but I think it will fit perfectly in the wheel well. I just ordered Nitto 255/45/18's and 295/45/18's about 3 days ago from discounttire.com. In the end, I was just comparing sizes, and not so much brand names, as both BFG and Nitto seem like very reputible tires.

I am running my new Nitto 555's for about 2 weeks. So far... great ride and NO road noise.

Currently running the BFG's. Stock 235/18's. Noisey & too small! Changing out to the The Triple Fives, Red Lines. 255's up front, 295's out back. Had Nittos on my 99 GT. Great on the road courses.

I got the same tires from the same place. Good price. I've had them on my L for the past couple of years as well. I'm very happy with the Nitto's. Very quite on the road, good wet and dry traction. I think the tread pattern looks pretty good too. Been very pleased with the 555's, and I've had a dozen of them up to now.

No rubbing at all, fit great. Car is lowered 1" in the back.

I just ordered my nitto 555 tires from discountire.com in a 245/55/18. They should be here on Friday. I can't wait!

haha, u know what the funny thing is? i am looking at those same wheels too. Im looking for some lightweight 18s, those were the lightest i found. thats great that you have the same setup im looking at. Looks good btw. Hookup is good i trust? lol

Actually, i was considering going even wider in the rear, what is the wides possible w/o rubbing or modification...i searched some threads and i found one guy running 315s with 20s (which i am kinda considering too) which looked pretty sick.

sorry to kill your dreams dude but Nitto only makes the NTRD1 Redlines in 255/45ZR-18 for right now so they fit the factory fanblades and bullitts just right all around

I'm running Nitto 555 R Extreme II DRs, 305/45/18s on the back of mine and am very pleased. No noise, great traction on wet pavement, and do a nice job of filling up the wheel well.

OK, let me preface this by saying that I haven't had the BFG KDW2's nor the Nittos (yet) but I will be buying the Nittos in about 2 weeks. I've used BFG on my '92 GT for years (Comp TA's) and they have great wet and dry traction but they wear incredibly quickly. Maybe the KDWs are a better tire, but none the less my experience with the Comps has kinda turned me off from them. Nittos 555's are what I plan to buy, unless I decide to try the newer Falken 452s.

Hawgman and NOLAGT are running 305's with no trouble. I bought some to go on, but ended up putting them on the Lightning since I was going to race a couple of SRT 10's and a couple of other Lightnings at the track (beat them all in ET, btw). The 555's hook up pretty good, I cut some 2.0 at 60's at the track with them at 23psi. Not great, but not too bad for a street radial with 440hp at the wheel. I can bounce it off the rev limiter pretty quick if I'm not careful in first gear though. But for traction, they are 10X's better than the stock Pirellis, couldn't stop spinning through 3rd with those.

How do you like the extreme II's? How are they different than just 555R's? Thanks for the feedback on the size. I'll get some back there soon.

Wow so nobody has any positive feedback on the KDW 2's?? I have then on and I love them. Yes, there are a little noisy but between the tunes and the exhuast... who can hear the tires!! Ha ha.

That's what I'm saying. I'm shocked there aren't more KDW2 owners in here. I see them on Mustangs all the time. Oh well. We know they're good. And aggressive as hell looking.

ok good posts everybody thanx. Im actually looking into even wider tires in the back, i keep looking at the post with the guy with 315s on 20s and it looks sick. I kinda wanted to stick with 18s tho cuz the wheel will obviously wiegh more and it take more to turn over a bigger wheel, etc. But the 20's fill up the wheel-well extreamly well. So if i go 18s ill probably go Nitto 555s 255 in front and 295 out back (although falken makes 315s for 18s but thier EXPENSIVE). If i go 20s ill probably go Toyo Proxes ST (if anyone can comment about these feel free) 255s in front and 315s in back. The problem is that I was kinda hoping to fine some "lightweight" 20's. also i cant even find any 10.5" 20s besides the Axis GTR replicas. i assume for 315s your gonna need at least a 10.5" wide wheel. i cant decide please help...i need your opinions lol.

I dig 'em. Plenty sticky for a combo tire ( track and street ). Don't get me wrong, I ain't breaking world records with them, but then again I ain't a world record driver. But I have cut a 1.7 with them.
