Badge- Honest Opinions Requested

I am thinking of adding Saleen fader stripes to my doors even though my 05 doesn't have a single Saleen part on it (yet). I like the stripe, but I don't want to give the impression it's an actual Saleen wana-be. Would this be a problem at car shows? see pic example of fader decal.

I doubt it's a mortal sin to do so. I personally would not if the stripe was the only Saleen item on the car. Pop a few other Saleen parts on and that's not what I would consider being a poser. But, your hearing this from a guy with GT300 rocker panel stripes.

Regards,
Kevin

Do what you want. Who cares what other folks say. Inevitably you'll get folks responding on both sides of the fence. The only opinion you should care about is your own!

Do it! I think you'll end up wanting more black on the car though.

It's your car...do as you wish...however, since you're asking for an opinion, you're probably not entirely set on it...my guess is that in the long run you won't want it on. Leave the wax on the paint so that if you do change your mind, you'll be able to remove the stripes easily (just watch out and don't use any water pressure hoses for cleaning...which I'm sure you probably wouldn't do anyway).

If it doesn't actually say Saleen on it, then I say go for it. The issue usually arises more when someone puts something on their car that actually identifies it as something it is not, i.e. the actual words on an emblem.

I think both the fading rocker stripe and the saleen ones look fine for an accent on a modern theme car.

I guarantee no one would even know it was a Saleen stripe unless you told them(Except for us Mustang geeks on TMS) So I say go for it..its one of the nicer ones I've seen

I cant tell you how many times Ive gotten the question, is that a shelby? saleen? cobra?

Even got some guys on video when my g/f was taping me at the drag strip saying, "That a cobra?"
other guy, "Yeah thats a cobra"

rofl at about 12 seconds in the video. Never mind me losing.

Anyway I say to do what you want. Just remember, no matter WHAT you do, someone WON'T like it, so who cares?

The question is not should I do it, cause most everyone on TMS does it. So yeah, put on what YOU like. If you have other ideas for a stripe, put em up together and I/we will tell you what we like. Again though, what do YOU like? Do it. If your talkin car shows, the percentage of 100% stock cars will be very small. Unless your entering a category that requires original accessories you certainly won't be penalized for it. As far as being a Saleen wanna-be goes...well, I just don't see anything wrong with that!

OK... I'm going in a different direction. I agree that it is your car and that you should mod it as you like, however, you are asking for an honest opinion, so here it is: I personally would not... Is it as bad as adding a GT emblem to a V6? No, but it's still a "signature" decal by Saleen. It is similar to adding a ROUSH windshield banners on none Roush stang, well maybe not that bad, but you get my point. There are plenty fading stripes out there(including the one pictured above) that look good and will give you the same effect, but will not look like a pretender... IMO. Whatever you decide though is cool

Steve,
Where did you wind up getting those stripes? They were custom right?
