I know this has ben on here before but i thought i would get it going again.

Stick shift is amazing. I have more fun driving my stick Focus than my friend's slushbox Stang.

Why?

The Auto-pilots don`t have to push in the clutch every stop sign.
They don`t forget it`s out of gear at a stop light.
They don`t grind a pound of gears by error.

The gear heads can work on their own clutch.
Get a better start off a line.
Better feeling shifting.

I say its a wash meself.

But I have a Manual.

I don't look down on anyone who is happy with what they have. However, anyone who settles for what they don't want because of current price or availability is a fool.

Hell yes, I look down on them. I hate those **** automatic drivers. They're the scum of the earth. They're all like "I have an auto, I'm so cool! I only have to use one foot when I drive ... blah blah blah".

**** you, auto-ites! **** you to HELL!!!

In case you can't tell ... I'm only kidding.

And to further prove that I'm kidding, I've owned 4 cars in my lifetime. 2 stick, 2 auto. In my opinion, buy and drive whichever one floats your boat.

In the past I'd say yes because the auto was so much slower. It's gotten better over the years though. The old 5.0 auto's were a joke compared to the stick.

However, with the '05+ getting a 5-speed, it's probably just as fast, if not faster, than the stick. I'd love to see someone line up a brand new '07 auto against a brand new '07 stick... both with 3.31 gears.

I have had a lot of auto cars. Nothing compares to the 5spd auto in the Mustang. As to which is faster stick or auto.... well a friend of mine has a 06, cai headers etc, dynoed 315 rwhp, and got beat in an eighth mile by a bone stock auto, simply because the autos just plain hook up super. Put a tune and an aftermarket torque converter on it and its extremely consistent and quick.

Stick is fine if you dont mind shifting for yourself. In my younger days I might have ordered the stick. I am very happy with the auto.

Performance wise, I would say about the same in the 05+ Mustang. I think magazines generally have the stick quicker by 0.1 or 0.2 seconds, but I'm sure the auto would yield more consistent times. For me, it was about the fun factor and saving $1000 to put towards aftermarket parts. Plus, an auto just doesn't look right in this car.

The quicker times for the stick was with a 3.31 rear end.
Now that the '07 stick comes with the 3.31 I'd like to know if it would win.

If 0-60 and dragging is your thing, the auto is better (with a tune) or if you drive in traffic all the time.
If you need full control of your machine at all times... manual.

Well The Auto is quicker off the take, but at cruisin speed- the manual can take it.
Been there, tested that. My car won off the light, his took me at cruising speeds.

I just had my first compare.
The Manual is sweet to drive- hence having the manual for when the mood hits.
The auto is Just Conveniently lazy- Throw it in D Hit Cruise and go.Plus its a lot easier in traffic.

if you have an auto with a tune and a TCI torque converter and you can dominate over the stick shift stangs

I doubt traction issues on a modern car would make up a 60rwhp difference...

I debated auto vs stick for a while myself. To me, it all boiled down to memories of getting stuck in traffic driving a stick. I hated it. I *HATE* driving a stick in bumper-to-bumper traffic that is crawling. For the fact I seem to be a magnet for heavy traffic, I went auto. I won't even look back as I know I've made the right choice.

Sounds like somebody doesn't know how to drive a manual. The 05/06 autos came with 3.31 rear gears, and the manuals came with 3.55 gears. Give me two stock Mustangs... 1 manual, 1 auto... I'll beat the auto off the line any day.
