ANYONE should I do a Clear Bra on the Car?????
Hi guys I have a tint guy that will use highend stuff and said they can do
the clear bra for $400 total for the whole ft. end of the car and hood strip
and door edges, headlights and fog lights.
What do you guys think? worth it? will the edge on the film look bad?
I would love some input and info.

I tried the Xpel (3M Scotchgard actually) film on my Black car. It looked like crap. I only did the hood and decided I hated it. They refused to take back all of the film I didn't use. I'm out over $900. Xpel sucks.
I had my clear bra installed 8 months ago and couldn't be happier... installation is EVERYTHING.. you need to find a qualified installer or it will look like crap. Here's the link to my post back in April:

I went with XPel (they use 3M film).. quality film. I covered the Hood, Fender, Mirrors, Front Bumper, Headlamps, Signal Lamps, Fog Lamps, and Chin Spoiler. It has saved me many times over from rock chips (I've seen small rocks get kicked up in front of me... hit the hood... and bounce off and over). Check out link.. pics installed.

The thing with the clear bra is it can either be very nice or VERY BAD. I saw this on a Corvette and didn't even notce it was there because the place did such a good job with very uniform spacing at the edges and few lines. I've also seen this on a Mustang where there were many lines and in odd spots, it really made it look terrible but it will protect the paint. -Joe
OR, when the bumper looks really bad and needs a repaint, repaint it and ALSO put on the clear bra...that way your bumper will always be in perfect condition and you won't have to repaint it over and over and over and over again
Have had it one my car for almost a year, don't know how many times it has saved my paint!!
Had my headights, fogs, turn signals hood, bumper, top of the roof edge and the A pillars...
Love It!!!!!

I used to have a black leather bra on my 84 Mustang when I got it new in 1984. The bra manufacturer had recommended applying several coats of wax on the hood before installing the bra to prevent the bra from scratching the paint. The bra also had to be taken off every few months and a few more coats of wax applied. With my 2005 Mustang, I had the 3M clear bra installed on the first 18 inches of the hood, headlights, upper bumper for about $400.00 and could not be happier. As far as the line on the hood that seperates the 3M from the paint if you apply several coats of Meguair's Tech Wax and then use a Meguair's microfiber cloth to remove the wax the line is hardly visible unless you plant your face right in the hood. The key to ask yourself is "Am I keeping this car for a long time and in doing so do I want to keep it in pristine shape?" If the anwser is yes then you want the clear bra. If you just want to drive it till it drops and are not concerned about the appearance then I guess you have saved money for other mods.
I REGRET not getting it done to my black stang. 3M is the way to go.
The most important areas are the leading edge of the hood, headlights, A pillar and surprisingly the front of the roof. I've had several hits at the front of the roof.
Get it professionally done.

I have it, and I have had it on there since 2004 when I got my 05 GT. It's worth it, and 400, does that include installation? You definitely don't want to do this yourself. Get someone qualified to do it.
One final note, it requires some maintenance. You need to keep it clean and waxed, otherwise it may start to become more visible. I don't take care of mine half as much as I should, and I can tell it is there when looking at it. But if you wax and clean really frequently, then you will be ok.

To add to my post above, I AM qualified to install it. It was installed straight, aligned correctly and bubble-free. I didn't like the fact that the sheen was so far off from the rest of the car. And wavy to boot. The line along the edge I could live with. My paint has a deep gloss and this stuff just detracted too much from it. I'd rather spend the time fixing the occasional chip. Without a lot of effort I can fix a chip and you'll never find the repair. On an orange car you might get away with it.
I will never put a clear bra on any of my cars. You can see where the bra ends and doesn't look right IMO
My black GT is a DD; as such I drive 20 miles through swampland in predawn hours and pick up *lots* of bugs on the trip. Having the Xpel installed saves me from not having to wash my car daily to remove their rotting carcasses. I repainted the front end (hood and bumper) of my '96 twice because of this and swore I would put clear bra on my next. Glad I did.
Repainting is not a cure all as both processes I had done did not have the durability of factory paint and scratched/chipped much easier.
