Another VInyl stripe question

Just got my stripes on this morning. Should I wait a few days before washing the car, or is it ok to go ahead and wash it?

And what about waxing?

Thanks

Hey 65, Good question. I just had my Baltimore Street Mods stripes done and the installer told me to let the car sit out in the sun for two days and then it would be ok to wash. He said wait another week to wax. When you wax go with the stripes not across them. I've had my stripes a week now and I'm about to apply 3 coats of Zaino.

I waited 1 day before fully washing the car. I have yet to wax the stripes- don't know if I will.

I'm planning on laying down a few coats of Zaino on my stripes later. I've gotten a few tiny bug poops on my new white stripes and was lucky enough to wipe them off before it stained the vinyl. Just wiping them off dry, you can still see a yellowish stain, had to use some Z-6 to remove it.

So, I think wax or polish will help keep the vinyl from being stained.

Thanks for the tips, Oh well though for waiting two days to get the stripes wet. been raining for the last 4 hrs. Think I will wax it a little later this week, as many bugs as there are around here I am sure to get stains.

Oh and here is a pic of the stripes.

Cheers

So stains on Vinyl are typical? I'm getting more and more "water" type spots on mine, and they won't come off.

Chris- Don't know if it's typical, but stains sure show up on white alot more than the other colors. And, I'm sure keeping a coat of wax/polish on it will help keep it from staining.

Not sure what'll lift the stain out from the vinyl without harming it. Maybe others will chime in on how they do it.

Ducky water spot remover works pretty well (used it on my watercraft).

I wax mine without issues and they look great, people think they are paint. The only stains I got is when a truck in front of me sprayed Tar all over my car, now there are yellow spots until I get them redone. I went to my vinyl shop and they tried some stuff, but told me that the tar stains the vinyl too much and can't really be taken out.

I'm getting my C-stripes put on this weekend, the guy I talked to said not to wax vinyl at all. Am I taking any risks putting wax on the vinyl? It doesn't sound like it from what you guys are saying.

Most everyone here with vinyl (including a few graphic guys) will recommend that you wax/polish them. Maybe what your installer is saying is not to wax them right away, giving the vinyl time to breathe out for a week or two.

Woo hoo! Stripes put on today, I'll post some pics as soon as my wife gets back from Florida with the camera (next month). Also, the vinyl guy said not to use any petroleum based wax products on it, any suggestions?

wait a few days before you apply wax over the stripes. If water was used at all, it actually evaporates through the vinyl, but if you wax over them, the wax seals the vinyl and the water takes a lot longer to evaporate.

Now for those that are unsure about waxing the stripes, here is a reason why you should. Vinyl can be stained by acid rain, industrial fallout, bird crap etc. If you do not wax them, anyone with white stripes or light colours will notice spots on them within a year, which, you cannot remove. So go ahead, and use the wax.

What we use here to remove water stains, road debris, etc is ORANGE CLEANER!!!! Nothing else seems to work, but the orange cleaner works beautifully. The whites are particularly succeptible to it.

Spray type orange cleaner, didn't have much luck with the wipes.

As for wax, once I get back from the merchantsville car show this weekend I am gonna buy a few reputable waxes and give it a go on a couple pieces I need to replace before mustangweek... I will let ya know how it went, and which ones work best. I do not typically wax mine (since they change with every photo shoot) but I think I will be staying with this graphics style for awhile now that the mustang enthusiast photo shoot is out of the way. (either oct or nov issue)

So who's gonna be the first to try thre new supersnake stripes?? hehe

Tungsten with black ... doing a windveil blue with white stripes today/tomorrow, I will post pics for ya.

****IF YOU WAX, NO POWER EQUIPMENT LMAO!!! HAD A CUSTOMER DO THAT RECENTLY AND WONDERED WHY THE STRIPES CAME OFF

They are 10'" stripes with 2" gap.

Btw, I noticed you are from Dothan. I grew up down in Cottonwood and will actually be down there for a few days this coming week. If I don't go down there on the wifes 4Runner will let you know when I will be in town if you want to see the car.
