Aftermarket HIDs Lighting Only side periodically.

Hey guys and gals. To add to my list of recent issues with my car, my aftermarket HIDs have had a reoccurring issue of one side (driver's) not lighting. It makes an electrical buzzing sound briefly, too when turned on. Usually after a few minutes of driving, it turns on but lately I've noticed its more frequent. Maybe I'm just paranoid because my power source for the HIDs is the car's battery, which I just got replaced yesterday after one less than a year old "Failed" Advanced Auto Parts' test) and I am watching it closely now. Any help would be great!

This is one reason the HIDs I have are still in the box awaiting install. I have heard a lot of horror stories of ballasts etc going bad. I like the brightness of HIDs but I really wonder if its worth it.

I'm starting to wish I hadn't done this mod. Now the left side won't come on at all.

Dang, yeah the noise is definitely coming from the ballasts on the driver's side.

Welp, I was fighting daylight, but I got the HID system out. Bought brighter versions of the stock lights and put them in. However, I did lock my keys in the car in the process...oh well I got back in.

Do you have the stock hid lights? I have them on my 08, and though they look good looking at them head on, they really don't seem much brighter then regular halogen lights. I would like brighter ones if possible.

I didn't have stock HIDs. My Mustang is an '07 V6 Pony Package. In late 2010, I bought an aftermarket HID system for $99 on Ebay. It had its issues periodically however they became more frequent recently. So, I decided to scrap the system and bought brighter Halogens.

It's the ballast most likely. It's really a hit or miss on some of those. I have HID's on my headlights and fog lights. Our of 4 ballasts and HID's, I've only ever had issues with 1. So I replaced the ballast and light and everything is working awesomely. Keep an eye on your alternator by the way, those are known to die very prematurely in these cars from time to time.

Thanks Pete, during all of my repairs last week, the shop said my alternator was just fine. Which I am pleased about. It has always been on my radar .

You are very fortunate. I'm happy you got a good system.

I'm glad I was able to try HIDs for a year and a half. But, even more glad that I'm back to the stock system.
Now that I have the HIDs out, everything on my car is working great!

I got mine from ebay as well. It uses the battery as well w/o a ground. It uses the stock harness and ballast that came with it. i had similar issue with one side not lighting up. I turned off the lights coming on when unlocked due to the lights not getting enough power and has been fine since. Mine is a 07

Hmm. Now that you mention it, the driver's side that had the lighting issue was never able to be latched in as securely as the other side. Maybe that was the issue.
