No kidding I know people have had issues with Saleen in the past but we have some hot members! There is a real problem here with the HID lights. They should stop selling these until they address the issue. Then work with their customers to help them before resuming sales. I hope Ford didn't use the same setup for the 08 Stang.

Agreed I can't say I'm impressed so far. I don't expect a handout or anything just solutions.

IMHO they are not going to do anything. Like I said, I wasted an ENTIRE DAY OFF to go down to their mfg facility in Irvine for NOTHING.

THEY got to "study the problem" and I got an empty promise that something would be done.

 

I'm still waiting on that call from the manager!

 

HID: High INTENSITY Discharge. These bulbs are producing light in the 4100 Kelvin range. Guess how hot that arc has to be to produce light at 4100 Kelvin???

HID lights ARE lower power than normal head lights. 35 watts verses 55 watts. The problem is that the heat produced is concentrated in a much smaller area than a standard bulb. This tends to cause problems if the materials near the bulb (and ESPECIALLY above the bulb given that hot air rises) can't handle the heat produced.

I used 400 watt HID MH lights on my aquarium. When you turned those lights off, the inner glass bulb shell was glowing almost white hot! It took it a few minutes to cool down enough that it wasn't glowing orange. Needless to say, I had to take measures to make sure the materials above that bulb were heat resistant and far enough away that it wasn't damaged.

 

so is there any update on when redesigned ones will be availible? i dont want to keep wasting money changing them out, only to have it happen again and again.

 

Thousands upon thousands of cars and different applications use HIDs without any problems. This is a defect in the product design that should be fixed asap by the manufacturer.

 

ya, i mean i have hids in the factory housings on my gmc yukon, and they have been on the truck for 120k miles, and like 5 years, and there is no damage to the housing at all.

 

Heh I said that quite a few posts ago.... This is the only setup that is doing that, NONE of the OEM units other then Saleens do it.

Even my foglight reflectors (known for their notoriously bad quality) aren't burning and I have had HIDs in them for the better part of 8 months now.

The Chinese supplier of these headlights F'd up. And people like myself who dropped $1400 on the lights are taking it up the you-know-what.

 

yep, and the yukon housings were designed for halogen lights, i just put a philips hid kit in them.

 

thought osram/sylvania had complete HID lights (incl. housings) for these? remember seeing something like that years ago on tv somewhere...

 

At this point as owners we need to organize and approach Saleen as a group. Any thoughts on how you all want to handle this?

 

Not sure how we'd go about it, but whatever we decide I'm in!!!!!

Class action?

 

Organize a list of people who bought the Saleen HIDs and have experienced multiple problems with the reflector. Draft a letter and attach everyone's signature. All you are asking for is a solid solution, not a hand out.

 

yes lets do this, we should get a post going on all of the different forums, im sure there are a ton more people having this problem.
