Harlock earlier posted a link to a news release from BF Goodrich saying Ford will offer an 18-inch tire option for 2006 Mustangs using their g-Force T/A KDW tires. Here's the link:

BFGoodrich Tires Gives New Pony Cool Shoes; g-Force T/A KDW Tire Offered As Upgrade on 2006 Ford Mustang GT

Hmmm..

If the '06 will offer a 255/45R18 tire as an option, that has to be a 9-inch wide rim, presumably the "fan blades". According to tirerack.com, you could do 255/45R18s all around on an '05 or go to 285/40R18 in the back and still have virtually identical diameters. That would have to be at least a 10-inch wide rim. Can you say deep-dish?

Anyway, has anyone tried using a 10-inch wide rim on the back yet? Any problems? Modifications needed?

BTW, what offsets would you need for 9-inch fronts and 10-inch backs?

Thanks! :worship:

I think there are a couple people out there with 18x10's in the rear...cant think of any right now....A good offset and backspace would be (front) 35mm w/ 6.5" (rear) 45mm w/ 7.5"....thats if your runnin 18x8.5 or 9(fr) and 18x10(rear)...should line up w/ fender nicely.....

Ya, I have 18x10's for mine with a 7.25" backspace. They are currently not on the car because of the darn snow!!!!!!!

As for what you mentioned above, the fanblades from FORD will not be 18x10. They are 18x8

I had 285/40/17s on my 98.... my Cobra R wheels were 17x9.... you don't have to have a 10" wheel to get 285s on.
my sidewall wasn'te even rolled out that bad... I liked haveing a little bit of sidewall there to keep my wheels from digging curbs if I had parked a little close.

You also don't have to wear a condom during sex but that doesn't mean it is a good idea.

At least a 10" wide rim is recommended by manufacturers for a 285 or wider tire. A lot of "good" shops will refuse to install a 285 on a rim narrower than 10" due to safety concerns.
