18" wheel Steering stop question

Does anyone know where the steering stops for the 18" wheels go, and why Ford even says that they are needed?

I got them just in case, but can't figure out where they go (I even have the shop manual, and it doesn't show any steering stops)

Further, there is no rubbing when turning the wheel all the way in either direction.

Does anyone have experience with this???

I'm not sure why they offer the wheel stops this year.I installed these FRPP 18" Black Bullits on my 06' GT in 06" and had no problems. The car did come with 17" Bullits.

Later I went to 20's with no problems either.

If I'm not mistaken they go in between the rack & pinion assem and the tie rods.

I have not seen them so can not imagine where they go, but if you do not have any rubbing, then put them on the shelf in the garage and enjoy the car.

I just bought 18" Fanblades for my 05 V6. Ford Racing says use steering stop when you have a V6 with 16" rims. I have this steering stop they talk about and it's a nylon ring. I have to believe it belongs on the car if Ford Racing says so. Anybody at all know how it's installed?

Thanks,

Monte

I bought the stops as well, and haven't installed them yet, because I am not having any issues with regard to rubbing. As tmcolegr said, it looks like it may go b/w the rack and pinion and tie rod assembly. If that's the case, I am just going to leave it, as I am not going to take apart the whole front suspension just to put them on.

I had a rubbing problem on my 2000, because the tires I got had rim protectors that barely rubbed. I had a much easier fix to the problem: don't turn the wheel all the way.

has anyone been able to find out anything about these steering stops (ie-if they're really needed, and where they go)

I went ahead and put my 18" Fanblades on and no problem. I've been close to all the way left and right with no problems. I would say forget it inless you have a habit of cranking the steering wheel as far as it will go.

I've had my steering wheel against the factory stop and I've had no rubbing issues.

But, I would still like to find out WHY ford tells you to used it, and WHERE the stop goes.
