18" vs 20" wheels

I want to set my car up so I can run the twisties on Sunday mornings, and maybe take it to the road course once a year. I don't want hardcore, just better handling without destroying the ride. I've ordered larger sway bars, K-member bar, LCAs and UCAs.

Would I be better off with 18" or 20" wheels? Like I said, I want a decent ride for the 90% of the time I'm not pushing it thru the curves.

don't get 20's, too heavy.

18's are perfect and fit well with the right tires.

I run my car at willow springs raceway (road coarses) and it does great with 18's.

A guy at work has a V6 (yea i know) and got 20's and his car looks nice but even he says "it's so slow"....

Yeah but its a V6! kidding...

Anyway, why not go with 19s? Thats what I did, Im very happy with them.

But if I had to choose between 20s and 18s, Id go with 18s. 20s somtimes look great but they will be heavier and provide less cushion for the bumpy roads.

there are barely any tire choice in 19" rims.
18 is more than enough rim unless your star in rap videos or something

18's by far. 19's I think look the best but Uberpony is correct. Hard to find tire size to fit.

18s for sure. 20s are heavy as mentioned. With 20s you'll also lose quite a bit of sidewall which means your ride quality will suffer.

I didn't notice any performance loss with my 20's and they weight 67lbs EACH! Hell, I even took my car to the track and with the mods listed in my sig went 13.6 with them on. Besides, the power loss is sooo minimal that you would only want lighter for the track, and if you're racing it then you shouldn't be on street tires anyway if you're trying to get the best ET.

Buy wheels for looks, not for racing performance.

Why not both? When I replaced the steel chrome 20s on my Charger with forged SRT8 factory wheels, I could feel a distinct improvement in performance. It launched better not having to get those heavy wheels rolling. And the SRT8 alloys look great. I'll find some good looking 18s for my Mustang that weigh in for less than 30 pounds each.

+1 It's not all about getting the car rolling either. What about stopping and turning? I guarantee the added mass will increase stopping distance and have a negative impact on the shocks damping ability likely leading to premature failure. I too opted for wheels that could do both well. My BBS wheels weight in around 20 pounds each and look good doing it!

BTW - I'm not flaming the guys with 20s. As I say every time someone posts asking for folks opinions - to each his own. Do what makes YOU happy. I personally wouldn't want to sacrifice performance in the name of cosmetics.

I found a size, thats just not an arguement I understand. 19s are a very good compromise between 18s and 20s.

This car screams for 20's IMO.

Just a difference in opinions and experience. I experienced no performance loss with my heavy 20's.
