I personanally have an issue with the 19+ sizes. They stink from a performance standpoint because of their weight and moment of inertia (how hard it is to spin them up and spin them down). There are a few good reasons to go with larger rims: 1) Clearance for larger brake and suspension components. 2) Increase total tire diameter (for either asthetics or contact patch shape reasons) while maintining the "correct" side wall height.

The problem is that you can't really justify anything larger than 18" for any reason other than you think it looks cool. That is your call, but I will not be spending a butt load of money to decrease to comfort AND performance of my car by going a silly huge rim. An 18" rim clears the larger brakes and suspension without getting to heavy.

18", 19" MAX I'd like the 18's, 19's if you want to go big, 20's too much IMO.

What are your goals and what is your style?

If your goal is to have a performer at the drag strip, then keep the 17's, or maybe go 18's max. If you want a road course handling beast, then 18-20 will do it depending on your style.

I like the look of 17's on this car, and I think 18's are the perfect size to complement the retro styling. But my tastes favor heading in the retro direction (hood pins, ducktail, etc...).

If you like more modern styling, then go 19's or 20's. They look nice on the Saleen pictures. I don't like that small of a sidewall on a muscle car, but you have to do what *you* like.

I personally like 17's also. Bt my vote would be 18's if I had to choose from those three... 18,19 and 20. The 18" fanblades on the Detroit car looked great. 19 and 20 inch wheels on a Mustang just look silly IMO and plus you have issues with functionality. Not to mention, the expense of 19" and 20" wheels and the tires to go on them. If I see a Mustang with a lot of money on the wheels, I think of the fact that they could have put that money to the wheels. But that's me.

Of the three, 20's would definately fill the wheel wells, but as everyone has stated, you will lose functionality. Otherwise, 18s would be the safest bet. JMO.

If you got the mustang to race then you want to go small. If you got it because it looks good... then go big.

I don't know what you guys are talking about but one thing I do know is the 18's look sweet on my car and I wouldn't have gone any bigger even if I could have afforded to. Some say 20's will fill the wheel well, uh, nope. Nothing will fill the wheel well unless.

A: you lower the car
B: put a real high sidewall on the tire, but that will also raise the car up in the air more.

I have 20's on mine and love the looks, fit's perfect IMO. Also, I don't drag my car so no biggy, if you go with 20's, it's true, you will loose a little performance. Not a whole lot though. By going to the 20 in wheel I was able to eliminate wheel hop and it does seem to hold the road better.

Someday if I ever decide to turn this baby into a racer I would definetly go with the 17 in wheel. It all depends on your style. Either way these cars are sick!

The point is bigger wheels won't fill the fenders anymore than smaller ones... IF you keep the same tire diameter. If you don't mind adjusting your speedometer, put the bigger tires on there.
I'll keep my coments on the 22's to myself. And my opinion has absolutely nothing to do with performance.

its not going to hurt my feeling i would like to hear your input on the 22's

i have always like the way cars and trucks for that matter looked with more wheel less tire for example i would rather see a 22 inch wheel with a 255/30 tire then a 17 inch wheel with a 235/55 tire , they are both 28 inches tall but again in my opinion i think the more wheel less tire looks better

i would love to hear ya'lls side of it though

IMO, that look just doesn't belong on a Mustang. I'll agree the stock 235/5517 has too much sidewall but a 20" doesn't have enough so a 22 looks terrible. But that's JMO.
And no matter what your taste are, if you keep the tire the same as the stock 27" tire, the ONLY way you'll fill the wheel well more is to lower the car.

PS
OCD, did you notice your car is ahead of mine now? If it wasn't for bad luck, I wouldn't have any luck at all.
